2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEntire Precinct shifted to provisional ballots in Hamilton County OH
Forest Park, a predominantly African-American northern suburb of Cincinnati, has a problem. Large numbers of voters showed up today to vote and found they were already listed as having requested absentee ballots. Ahh...no...not true according to many. So they complained to the local BOE and, surprise surprise...there was no record of those voters requesting absentee ballots, in spite of the precinct records saying they did.
Resolution - 100% of the precinct must vote provisional...and remember this is Ohio where Husted just shifted the burden of filling out the form correctly from the BOE (as defined by statue) to the voter. What do you think are the chances that some (many) of those registered voters make a "disqualifying" error on their provisional. In the past, the BOE would help them correct in the moment - now, the attitude is screw 'em if they can't fill out a form.
Can't wait to see where this one lands. I can only hope that by the time the sun rises on Wednesday, we'll learn that Ohio's results are immaterial in the grand scheme of things. IF that happens, I don't care if they count the votes next July - We'll still have a second term.

(9,001 posts)They'd have to steal more than Ohio in this election. OH may not matter at all in the long run

I am writing someone after this election!
There needs to be a way to identify people attempting to tamper and separate them from the election
Also, there should be no unreviewed changes to voting machines
And, inpartial agents need to test voting machines before elections
We lost an election to Bush and gave 8 years to the wealthy
It's time to make things right and get back on track
and
not accept lying and trickery as just a part of politics!

(16,230 posts)There's no way that this was accidental. An entire precinct - that just happens to be predominantly African American?

(17,162 posts)Too many Rovian patterns unfolding in the VERY same state as 2004.
I would like to think the Presidents team was prepared for these machinations
and that some people will finally be caught and prosecuted.
I'll settle for Rove to be first on the list.

(17,162 posts)People were still sleepwalking in 2000, as well as 2004.
Not so much anymore.
I don't think the American public is going to sit quietly, passively by
while the Koch Brothers, Rove and the rest of the demonic minions try to steal
yet another election.
I have a feeling this thing is going to be a long time coming as far as
resolution as to who actually won.

(44,973 posts)And apparently OH has been marking people as voted absentee while they haven't.
I wonder why that didn't happen in a republican leaning area?

(13,418 posts)until 2006....in the northern part of the city and I don't remember Forest Park being primarily Afro-American, but that was 6 years ago. I thought of it as working and middle class of a bunch of different people, but primarily white.
Maybe KKKarl is going after CLASS instead of COLOR this time???
ETA: I read the article and it mentioned the West Side of Cincy which is nothing but Catholics....and red.
I have a very good friend who is working the polls today in Cinti. I can't wait to hear from her. She has worked so hard this season and has exhausted herself for Obama.

(6,363 posts)IMHO, things have changed in the last 6 years. I think working and middle class is still a good description and I sense it has become, over the past decade, somewhat of a destination suburb among solid middle class African Americans. I'm about 4 miles south of FP but don't have a lot of reason to be up there or drive through the area much. I'm not an expert on this by any measure - my "sense" is predominately AA.
Look forward to hearing the view from the polls - I've spent the day in a hospital room with my dad recovering from a scheduled surgery (everything worked out fine). But I have to ask...what kind of life long democrat schedules an elective surgery on f'ing election day - especially THIS election day. Arghhh....

(13,418 posts)your father is OK. Maybe he didn't realize it was Election Day when he scheduled the surgery???
There was some shop that I went to up there....now I can't even remember what it was. I remember eating at Perkin's Pancake House. We have none up here in Columbus. Goddess, I miss those pancakes.
Welcome to DU! You found us on Election Day!
I found a great group of Dems when I lived in Cincy and we still keep in touch.
