http://www.jpost.com/US-Elections/Democrats-publish-draft-platform-language-on-Middle-East-459279"A strong and secure Israel is vital to the United States because we share overarching strategic interests and the common values of democracy, equality, tolerance, and pluralism," the platform draft reads. "That is why we will always support Israels right to defend itself, including by retaining its qualitative military edge, and oppose any effort to delegitimize Israel, including at the United Nations or through the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement."
....
The passage continues: "We will continue to work toward a two-state solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict negotiated directly by the parties that guarantees Israels future as a secure and democratic Jewish state with recognized borders and provides the Palestinians with independence, sovereignty, and dignity. While Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations, it should remain the capital of Israel, an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths."

VERY GOOD, Democrats! Fact is the BDS Movement is a scam and anti-Semitic lie dressed up in "anti-racism," and uses the apartheid lie. Thank you DNC for standing up to the fringe of the party, and American society!
The Democratic Party made the best move; not alienating a core constituency (Jewish voters), and standing up for what's right, as well as standing with the majority of America, and majority (Gallup, of if Pew, strong plurality) of Democrats.

For the record, does anyone know if Sanders was a BDS supporter?

(2,707 posts)2. no but his platform guys West and Zogby are
lapucelle
(18,356 posts)3. I thought Zogby was an interesting choice on the part of Sanders.
I wonder who proposed the specific language concerning BDS, and what the vote tally was on this plank.

(2,461 posts)4. I fully support BDS, as do many of my Jewish friends worldwide.
Call me whatever names you want. Tell it to Toni Morrison. Tell it to Alice Walker. Tell it to all the teacher unions in the UK. I could go on, but I seriously doubt you are listening.

(2,707 posts)8. the "some of my best friends" argument,
as in people no one can see or know from behind a screen. Yup. While yea there are some Jews who support BDS, they are the fringe. Ever notice how nearly all major Jewish organizations in this country, Israel-related and not Israel-related, opposed BDS??
