CBS: Romney Campaign Concerned

From Kos:

turned on CBS from MSNBC for their nightly newscast at 6:30 PM EST. After going thru their exit polling, which has been widely discussed on the 'net already, they cut to the reporter covering the Romney campaign in Boston. This is the woman who has followed the campaign, so presumably she has built up working relationships with the staff.

I'm sorry I forgot her name as it was quick and I was just getting settled. But she said her talks with Romney campaign sources indicated they were satisfied they were getting bigger turnout than John McCain in 2008 among Republicans. This is no surprise, we all knew they'd beat his pathetic performance of 2008. That was truly one of the worst run campaigns of my lifetime. But the way she said it I got the impression it was mild improvement, not the wave they had counted on.

Secondly, and this is the thumper, she added her sources inside the campaign indicated the Romney people were very concerned with the numbers they were seeing for the President in Florida, North Carolina and Ohio. I got the feeling the turnout they were hoping was way down is proving not to be.

That was the money shot. And since its a reporter very familiar to the campaign who has been with them for awhile, I got to think its accurate.

Romney wanted a whiter electorate. He probably won't get one, it has been going down every election.

..doesn't mean they're voting for Mitt. They can't know this yet. And Obama won in 2008 by getting a slice of the republican pie.

I don't think they thought they were going to win, but they wanted it close so the GOP could consider that as a 'mandate' for more mischief the next 4 years. Unfortunately for them, the turn-out is looking pretty huge, despite all their voter suppression efforts, which always favors the Left.

12. Good point about the mandate, I think the other big thing is how they kept saying

"we'll make him a one-term president", and that was about ALL they were saying.

That's just gonna hurt.

I think any campaign trying to sell a #@$#@ like Romney would need to be concerned the whole time

Better than McCain's but they were hoping the hatred for Obama was enough to bring people out in droves. And it will the base, but a campaign can't win on their base alone. Especially when you're depending on mostly white people.

Yup, that's all they have: white people who hate.

...then it's game over. The President doesn't need those states; Romney does.
