Jeb Bush trashes Trump on eve of GOP convention

Washington (CNN)Jeb Bush is carrying his crusade against Donald Trump to the doorstep of the Republican convention, saying that he is not the future of the Republican Party even as it prepares to nominate him.

Bush, once seen as the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, remains one of the most prominent anti-Trump holdouts in the GOP. In an op-ed for The Washington Post published Friday, Bush acknowledged that Trump had capitalized on legitimate frustrations with American politics.

"They have given rise to the success of a candidate who continues to grotesquely manipulate the deeply felt anger of many Americans," Bush wrote, saying the nominee harkened back to an 1850s political party. "Trump's abrasive, Know Nothing-like nativist rhetoric has blocked out sober discourse about how to tackle America's big challenges."

I haven’t decided how I’ll vote in November — whether I’ll support the Libertarian ticket or write in a candidate — but I do know there are a lot of things Republicans can do in the coming months to lay the groundwork for rebuilding our party and the foundation for a true conservative renewal in our country.

This is quite remarkable. There is still a huge split in the GOP over Trump even as he is about to be officially nominated. Not sure where this is heading but clearly not good for them but good for us.

abandon them. The base would never re-register as democrats like the DINO's. The GOP calculated that the base would have to accept whatever they offered.

The situation reminds me of the end of "Tommy The Who" with "We're Not Gonna Take It" and Tommy being shocked out of his mind by his disciples turning on him.

they can court The Crazies, and then control them. That's why they keep believing that old "The Enemy of my Enemy" canard. And they never realize the enemy of my enemy is only using us to get what they want.

just brought in that and added the "Plug Ugly" movement as inspiration for why old, tired white men should vote for him. Had he connected plug uglies with Muslims in January, he would have been the nominee.

You, Jebsclamation point, are just pissed that Trump just showed up at your pitchfork-and-torch rally and stole your audience by waving pitchforks and torches himself.
