Hillary Meets with Warren; Announces 'End ' to Citizens United at Netroots Nation!

In poker, we call this a 'tell'?

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton held a series of meetings with potential vice-presidential picks and her top aides at her home in Washington on Friday, a sign that she is preparing to make a decision as her party's convention nears. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) was spotted being dropped off at Clinton's home and remained there for about an hour, according to CNN and NBC News.

The very next day:

Hillary Clinton will call for a constitutional amendment to "overturn Citizens United" in her first 30 days as president and plans to make that announcement today to progressive activists at the annual Netroots Nation conference.

"I will also appoint Supreme Court justices who understand that this decision was a disaster for our democracy," Clinton will say in a video message, scheduled to run near the end of today's final keynote session. "I will fight for other progressive reforms, including small-dollar matching and disclosure requirements. I hope some of the brilliant minds in this room will seek out cases to challenge Citizens United in the courts."

I honestly don't see it getting a 2/3 majority vote in either house of Congress much less both.

None of our amendments have ever been proposed by Constitutional Convention and I doubt very much if this one would be the first. Not with the deep divisions in our political structure.

Appointing Supreme Court justices is a meaningful statement, but the rest of that seems to just be blowing smoke.

There is a new paradigm. Candidates at all levels want to stop asking for money all the time!

They're on recess from Congress for 7 weeks - it will be nothing but begging and asking for more!

a constitutional amendment may be the only route Congress can take to fully overturn it, or even make it possible for SCOTUS to overturn it.

Besides, there's been plenty of smoke blowing this primary season, with wishful-thinking, unicorn proposals that Congress will never pass. I didn't see anyone complaining about that.

But Citizen's United also allows foreign countries access to the system with investment-driven policy influences over private business. Framed like this, well, who knows.

Naming justices to overturn it is more doable, but can also be undone by a different court.

"Do you support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United?" If they say yes, work our asses off for them. If they say no, work our asses off against them. If they equivocate, f*ck 'em.

This issue must be a litmus test for our support, just as reproductive rights, minimum wage, etc.

and I have been told by several Bernie supporters that aspiring to it, as Kennedy did the space program is the only way it will happen, and believed that there was enough support to get the vote and more.... if we would only let Bernie try, it would happen, and was a moral imperative, that it was the only way to get poor people covered, so it was truly a moral litmus test for a candidate.

A constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United costs nothing, and is fully accomplished by a vote - and single payer requires not just a vote, but funding and a massive implementation involving our health care infrastructure and payroll tax system.

For the record, I don't think it a vote to overturn Citizens United will happen. But promising to call for a vote is way more meaningful and realistic than promising to try to repave the entire health care system, even over two terms, when we could not even get a public option on the ACA with a Dem House, Senate and White House.

Admit it.

is meeting with Elizabeth Warren again and then - like a hardcore progressive boss! - following up with a pledge to push for an amendment to the Constitution in her first 30 days in office - a pledge she is committing to at Netroots Nation - arguably one of the most skeptical activist organizations she could propose this policy too!

And she was going to "move to the right in the general election."

Sanders and O'Malley both went.

But who went 'all in'?

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has drawn a progressive line in the sand for this 2016 presidential race. In a rousing keynote on Friday morning, the Netroots darling laid out exactly what it will take for the next potential democratic nominee to win her endorsement, calling for 2016 presidential candidates to support an end to the “revolving door” between politics and banks. The Massachusetts senator also praised Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s new Wall Street legislation, introduced last week, which she said “will throw some heavy sand in the gears of the revolving door,” and is, “a bill any presidential candidate should be able to cheer for.” While Sanders has stated he would back the bill, Clinton has yet to say where she stands. Many progressives in attendance hope Clinton will heed Warren’s wake-up call.

This is where I see so much of Clinton administration is strong and all she is going to give this nation, making us just that much more strong in our ability to keep ownership for all.

Full quote:

As The Huffington Post’s Paul Blumenthal noted in September, campaign finance reform is notoriously difficult to pass, since politicians are loath to support anything that makes it more difficult for them to win elections. An amendment must be approved by a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate and then ratified by three-quarters of the states.

on campaign finance reform and against the rigged political system.

By November 8th, who knows how many more down ticket candidates will be running against Citizen United?

Longshot? Yes.

Slightly more proactive than waiting for Supreme Court justices to die, retire and wade through Senate 'advice and consent.'
