For me the rhetoric and the chants in the background bring Hitler to mind.

No, I don't like Trump nor want him to win the WH, but I respect democracy and choice.

(25,816 posts)I too respect democracy and choice. If we could only clean up the voting
process so that real democracy--one person, one vote--can prevail....

(10,952 posts)The US Spreme Court annoited Bush Jr, not the American people. Republicans routinely gerrymander districts to preserve their districts. Republicans routinely pass legislation that exists for the sole purpose of denying peple the right to vote.

(58,724 posts)That is a preposterous statement.
This is an actor yelling lines from a teleprompter that he neither wrote nor believes.
He has no interest in governing the United States. He just wants to win. To beat everyone. To be loved. To build his brand.
The fact that anyone supports him speaks to the fear and ignorance plaguing this country and much of the world.
radical noodle
(8,013 posts)that does for me. The glassy-eyed followers who would let him shove them off a cliff. He could easily whip them into such a frenzy that they'd kill for him.
And of course, he doesn't want to do anything but gather in the power and attention.

(12 posts)Watching the rnc i just cannot get the image out of my head...invasion of the body snatchers...for those of you old enough to remember that old movie...about a community whose members were slowly churned into aliens that otherwise looked exactly the same by day, but had their bodies overtaken during the night, except for this one fellow who resisted sleeping. I do wonder which one of us that will be.

(101 posts)I love Utah, but I'd say 80 percent everyone I know is a wingnut out here so I do get frustrated.
StevieM
(10,500 posts)A great progressive western city, like Denver or Portland.
I also heard--and maybe this is wrong--that there are a couple cities on the edge of the Wasatch Mountains, Holladay and Cottonwood Heights, that are more liberal. And Summit County (the Park City area) is supposed to be progressive.
But the rest of the state is definitely hard-core Republican. I imagine it is difficult being a liberal Democrat out there, especially given how aggressive Republicans become when they are in the overwhelming majority.
If it is OK, can I ask which part of Utah you live in?
Utah_liberal
(101 posts)and Park city is too, but I grew up in Sandy which is extremely conservative. I now live in Salt Lake county in Kearns which has a l fairly diverse population that can go either way in local elections.

With the GOP front-runner scooping up delegates in a march toward the Republican nomination, POLITICO subjected a weeks worth of his words to our magazines fact-checking process. We chronicled 4.6 hours of stump speeches and press conferences, from a rally in Concord, N.C., on Monday to a rally on Friday in St. Louis.
The result: more than five dozen statements deemed mischaracterizations, exaggerations, or simply false the kind of stuff that would have been stripped from one of our stories, or made the whole thing worthy of the spike. It equates to roughly one misstatement every five minutes on average.

(1,238 posts)Everything about the speech was deeply disturbing and sent a chill down my spine. The tone, the content, Trumps mannerisms, the distant look of apathy on his 10 year olds child who didn't even break a smile ONCE with thousands of balloons falling around him. It was an incredibly dark speech/ moment. Trump cannot get close to the white house.
