Related: About this forumClaims about Trump's opposition to TPP
Donald Trump is getting credit in certain circles for supposed opposition to TPP. I listened to five minutes of his speech last night. He talked about how he would renegotiate TPP or walk away. He also talked about deregulating business and slashing corporate taxes. The guy has made millions exploiting Chinese labor. He is not a champion of workers, or an anti-trade agreement type. His opposition to TPP is that it regulates too much, and he wants to see corporate America deregulated.
So let's cut the crap, shall we? Anyone who buys into his rhetoric about TPP is a blithering imbecile, who willfully ignores the majority of what he says. To claim Trump is more pro-worker than Hillary is a bold-faced lie. Unions have endorsed her, not Trump. The ONLY reason anyone who doesn't self-identify as a right-winger or Republican would support him is that they share his commitment to white male supremacy. I said it. If someone has previously voted for Democrats and now decides to vote for Trump because they've decided Obama and Clinton are just too "corporate" or not "progressive" enough for them, they are lying through their teeth, most destructively to themselves. There is no rational basis to claim the current Democratic Platform is to the right of previous elections years. The party is increasingly inclusive, and those who long for the days when women and people of color stayed in their place and let the white middle-class reap the benefits of egregious global capitalist exploitation have chosen to support the right-wing white supremacist who shares their views that Jim Crow America was better.
Not even an egotistical con man like Trump can turn the clock back. We won't go back to the short time period in which America's manufacturing economy boomed in ways that benefited the white middle class. What he can do is make life easier for the wealthy and corporations, for guys like him, and put up roadblocks to equality of race, gender, sexuality, and separation of Church and State. Those yuge tax cuts he promises will be paid for by drastic cuts in the safety net, so if they want a better climate for billionaires and white supremacists, Trump is their guy.
