His experience and qualifications are outstanding.. I guess that would be considered a "safe bet" just like Hillary!

(11,833 posts)I'll take liberal and boring over right wing and sociopathic any day of the week.
Let's all help Hillary and Tim and tons of other democrats win.
I agree with Cha. She's running an excellent campaign.
Now it's up to all of us to spread the good news about the democratic platform.
Have an enjoyable weekend auntpuri.

(37,540 posts)Kind of a stupjd OP that would be better directed at the morons who will, again, be voting against thier best interests..

(58,785 posts)for more than 30 seconds, long enough for them to compartmentalize away unwelcome information, ITW? Ever?
The conservatives looking for an alternative to Trump and considering the possibility of the unthinkable--crossing the ballot--aren't at FR.
And the game now is GOTV for Democratic candidates, not verbal head-butting with hostile forum gladiators.

(4,311 posts)I've read...interestingly worded OPs right here on DU that basically said, "You wanted this so bad, you got it, don't f*ck it up then" re: Hillary. So Hillary has run a safe, smart campaign. And now, lo and behold, those same concerned individuals are complaining that she hasn't gone out on a limb and made a bold, risky choice. Funny that.

(989 posts)us all in the end. It's not Hillary who is the risk of "screwing this up" It's us and all the rest of the Democrats who turn their backs on our ticket. GOTV!!

Forget showing any esprit de corps or solidarity in the face of an unprecedented threat.
Now, the excuse for nay-saying, bashing and general HDS is her VP choice. But, rest assured, if it wasn't that, it would be something else.
Seeing lots of suspect, cryptic comments like: "Afraid that settles it for me"..."I was afraid this would be the case"..."Unfortunately, she's only made my decision easier with this pick"...yada, yada, yada.
And then, there's the "I just can't get EXCITED about this ticket" refrain. Like we're electing a comedy team or a sports duo.
SO TRANSPARENT.

Trump is going to have an exciting government. A Trump government is going to be a damned Chinese Curse. ("May you have an exciting life" is a Chinese curse, because an exciting life is full of terrible things that must be overcome.)
We will never know from one moment to the next what the Trumphole will do. We can predict with abso-fucking-lute certainty that it will be bad ... and exciting.

(6,716 posts)do any of us honestly think she's going to do anything that hasn't been poll tested to death, etc?
I'm with her.
auntpurl
(4,311 posts)I am certain Hillary and her team are privy to a hell of a lot more information than we are. They will have focus grouped and poll tested this decision to within an inch of its life. They are out to win, and they have the means and the smarts to do it.
If they knew that the vast majority of Bernie supporters are already with her, and the extreme left are Hillary haters who are never going to vote for her no matter who she picked as VP, then they probably also knew there was a vast swath of people in the center-left and center who will like Senator Kaine, relate to him, and be persuaded by this pick.

(68,586 posts)Despite all the BS he has liberal leanings...before the hysteria about the TPP starts...please remember Obama is for the TPP...he is a Senator in the Democratic Party. Also, Virginia is a state that has been helped by some trade agreements...it is not all lose -lose these days although I do believe the TPP is not good. He is pro-choice. Many have evolved on that issue. He can do the jobs should Hillary be incapacitated in some way. He is from a state with a Democratic governor...who is doing a good job by the way despite all the crap thrown at him on this site and other sites as well. Virginia is a swing state...winning Virginia is very helpful.

(126 posts)I only know one Sanders supporter who hasn't already switched to Clinton. The hold out is proving he's a dedicated rebel by voting for Nader, I mean Stein. The focus has to move from Sanders supporters to the center. As expected, Clinton has done her job well in picking Kaine.

(4,762 posts)The left has made its play, cashed in its chips, and pulled the candidate and the platform as far left as she needed to go; and most of us will be highly motivated by fear of her opponent, correctly so in my opinion.
She has to convince moderate and centrist independents and educated white (and Maybe a small number of remaining non-white) republicans and independents not to fall for Trump's free beer for white people ploy. She needs main street and chamber of commerce and boardroom republicans worse than she needs to chase an unreliable millennial or campus left faction, one that will be highly motivated by fear anyway. She has to convince the white guy who runs an insurance agency in Des Moines or the white woman who processes insurance claims in Cincinnati that Trump is dangerous and she's safe and boring, while Trump paints her as evil incarnate and assaults her with misogyny and calumnies.
She's also banking on high minority turnout. Trump just indulged her by doubling down on racism. The only problem with Kaine strategically is the same thing that is his biggest upside: he's a white guy. But he speaks Spanish, and you can bet that's getting used by Team CK.
This is how you win an election. She waited until Trump doubled down on white rage to claim the open field for a first down. Leftists can moan and whine but at this point your threat to vote for someone else is a bluff (Clinton's strategy has already discounted and amortized it, unless Bernie himself raises a stink and I'm sure they ran this choice by him) and your threat to stay home is irrational from the perspective of self jnterest. You're not voting for Trump so at worst you're a lost vote and likely in a state where it won't matter in the electoral college. And you're maybe 10% of the democratic base electorate at the outside anyway. And shrinking.
Hardball, she's playing it. Threats not to support her from the left are bean bags at this point.
