Tim Kaine is the right pick for veep: Our view
The Editorial Board8:33 p.m. EDT July 22, 2016
He's the first to say he's boring. That doesn't sound bad after months of Clinton's emails and Trump's bombast.

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine is not Mr. Excitement, as he'd be the first to say, but he is the smartest vice presidential pick Hillary Clinton could have made.
Kaine is not going to fire up the Bernie-or-bust crowd and he is, theres no way to avoid noticing, a middle-aged white guy (58, to be exact). But he does have the virtue of checking every other box on Clinton's wish list starting with the confidence that, as she put it in an interview with Charlie Rose, her running mate could literally get up one day and be the president of the United States.
She called that her top priority. It is ours as well.
If resume is destiny, Kaine was inevitable. He is a former city council member, mayor, lieutenant governor and governor who has become a student of war and foreign policy in the Senate. As governor he even had to prove himself in the tragic role presidents must play all too often, as consoler in chief after a mass shooting (the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre that left 32 people dead)./....................

(135,425 posts)(the late and great Ernest Borgnine) when I see him--they have a similar quality:
It's not a likeness that is feature-for-feature (EB had more hair), but you rarely saw Borgnine without a smile on his face, and so too with Kaine.
I've been reading up on Kaine this morning & you're right. Most of the photos he's smiling.

(13,305 posts)Our prime constituencies. As long as they are happy , Dems must be doing something right.
Glad to see we plan on keeping that as a holdover priority from the Obama administration.

(14,317 posts)I am warming up to Kaine.
He's not exciting by his own admission, but then the VP slot isn't exactly glamorous. Competent, low-key, and able to step in is what is required. So I see the wisdom in the pick.
My beef with him was mostly about the TPP, but he won't be setting policy, at least not until after Clinton's term.
