Is there ANYONE out there who still thinks there's no difference between the two parties? I ask in all seriousness.
I've been blown away today, Skinner. I've already posted elsewhere that I was up, on my feet, my arms in the air, and crying. I couldn't catch my breath. Impressed to the point of near overwhelm with and by BOTH of them, actually. The way she explained his appeal and why she chose him, in her introduction of him. Should (even though probably it won't) silence all naysayers who carry on about her supposed "bad judgment." Fernando Amandi, the talking head on as I write this - said exactly what's going on here . He said five-to-six weeks later, people aren't gonna remember the conventions. It's the FEELING they're gonna remember. It's the FEELING that's the takeaway. And this feeling, this takeaway from OUR convention is going to be one of optimism, confidence, positivity, and MOST CERTAINLY up to the job. Which will be glaringly different from the hate and fear and negativity and doom-'n'-gloom of this last week.
This will be the ultimate game of "Who Do You Trust?" When you get down to the very brassiest of brass tacks, we will all have to ask ourselves - who do you trust with our government, the future of our nation, the future impact of our nation on the world? In all seriousness? Which team? Trump/Pence or Clinton/Kaine?
VERY basic questions:
You want fear? Okay, you want those guys.
You want confidence? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
You want loathing? You want those guys.
You want inclusion? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
You want autocratic, dictatorial, "Only I can save you"? You want those guys.
You want "we're stronger together"? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
You want childish and amateurish? You want those guys.
You want mature and professional? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
You want a shit show? You want those guys.
You want competence? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
You want hysteria? You want those guys.
You want steady-as-she-goes? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
You want it monochromatic? You want those guys.
You want every hue in the human rainbow? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
You want "whites preferred"? You want those guys.
You want America (EVERYONE, period. Regardless the skin color, shape, age, gender, orientation, faith, nationality)? You want Clinton/Kaine (and company - don't forget the down-ticket'ers!).
By this time next Friday morning, I think what we all need to do - to everyone we know - is turn to them, smile GENUINELY and sincerely, no snark, and say: "well?"

Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)I don't agree that Hillary is "robotic" or "fake" but she seems to be much more at home in an office, getting things done, than at rallies. During his speech today, Kaine seemed like he was hosting a BBQ with his friends and family, and just having a good time. Its a good balance to the ticket.

(6,399 posts)I had been out doing errands and came back after it had ended, but she watched it as it was her first introduction to Kaine.
She felt that he and Hillary had some really great chemistry between each other and a comfort that really seemed to click.
I also got the comment that the two of them really present something that's important in two areas that she thought:
They were upbeat
They come across as STABLE
Watching the Republican convention this past week had her feeling both sorry and scared about how a lot of the delegates interviewed were talking and then hearing the nearly unhinged aspects of the convention speakers where you get christie and guliani, practically screaming at people, what was presented today with Clinton/Kaine made a huge impact.

(81,314 posts)I didn't know much about him. I do now. I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE it, and I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE him, too. And if Planned Parenthood and NARAL both give him "A" ratings, that's good enough for me. Add in an "F" rating from the NRA and I'm overjoyed. Throw in a little bit of "the mark of the Jesuits", and I'm in complete bliss!
And on top of all that, he's a self-described nerdy guy. And personally, I've always had a weakness for nerdy guys. Forty years ago, I married one and it still works well to this day. Brains turn me on.

Hillary Clinton: kids and families, extending opportunities to everyone. Tim Kaine: service to others, fighting always for more equality, liberal and progressive principles and delivering results.

(16,254 posts)which is an accomplishment for someone pulled out at the last minute for such a job. He sold himself well and held my attention. Actually, he should make the speeches, as his voice is not heavy/grating like Hillary's voice. She speaks better in small, intimate groups where she doesn't have to yell.
I was impressed all the way around.

(12,448 posts)and I really can't understand why some people say he's boring. I loved his speech, and his energy. The crowd in Miami seemed to love him too!
Congratulations to Tim Kaine and to Hillary Clinton for choosing him. They make a great team. What a contrast to Trump/Pence, in more ways than one. Trump briefly introduced Pence and then LEFT. That's right; he didn't even stick around for his VP choice's introductory speech! Hillary of course stayed, and she was cheering Tim Kaine on.
And Skinner, I second the request to make the Clinton/Kaine logo public!
stopbush
(24,396 posts)There's no adding "a missing piece" to her message, or appeasing a wing of the party. He has the same life mission of dedication to public service as does Hillary, of making a difference in people's lives.
Hillary's platform is multi-faceted, and she now has a co-pilot on board who will help to drive that message home.
People are going to quickly tire of the negativism of both the Trump campaign and the dead-enders in the D party. A positive message of what needs to be accomplished is a much-more-believable sell when you yourself have a record of accomplishment, as do Hillary and Tim.
Fired up, ready to go!
