Clinton-Kaine Just Reset The Election To Be About Experience/Competence

This was never an anti-establishment election.

That was RW code for being pissed a black man is president - started with the tea party wanting their country back from President Blackula, which was dressed up as anger against what? ginned up by the media, run on by the Rs and eventually convincing even Ds that the country was angry at the black man.

Hillary refused to play that game or to buy that framing. An Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders on the ticket would have played into that narrative. They would have represented the supposed anger on the left, an anger that asks you to believe that Ds are just as angry with everything President Obama has achieved as are the Rs. But Hillary knew that Ds love President Obama, and she was having none of the D bashing that Rs and the media typically engage in. Since Day One, she has run on the Obama record, not away from it.

Her choice of Tim Kaine was brilliant. In one fell swoop, she has changed the narrative of this election from one of both sides being angry to what it has actually been about since Reagan ran for POTUS: the belief by the Rs that government and government employees and policies are the problem, and the belief by Ds that government has a large part to play in making the lives of all Americans better.

The choice couldn't be clearer: there is little if any similarity between the two parties and the candidates they have nominated to run in November. That choice will only become clearer in the coming weeks and months, most likely in spite of the way the media will try to characterize the contest.

We wanted a progressive ticket and platform to back, and we've got it, in spades.

Let's get it on!

I'm not sure experience/competence is a big vote-getter. It doesn't appeal to people's gut. thesquanderer Jul 2016 #2

Hillary tried it against Obama and lost. McCain tried it against Obama and lost. Gore tried it against Bush and lost.

that sunniness and optimism can appeal to the gut -- like good food appeals to the gut.

The combination of Hillary and Tim will radiate competence and confidence and hope.
