There they go again. The votes from 8 precincts went missing in Iowa. (Wapo)

Santorum finished 34 votes ahead of Romney in new Iowa tally; votes from 8 precincts missing.

Republican front-runner Mitt Romney’s narrow lead in the Iowa caucuses disappeared when officials certified the vote count, a Republican involved in the process said Thursday, but former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum cannot be declared the winner because of irregularities in some precincts.

Instead of leading by eight votes, Romney ended up trailing former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum by 34 votes--29,839 to 29,805, the Republican said. The reversal was first reported by the Des Moines Register, which said results from eight Iowa precincts are missing “and will never be recovered and certified,.”

The recount result is understandable - 42 votes isn't much in a close race. The votes of 8 precincts being plowed into the corn fields is not. It is more of a sign of things to come.

You know that they would be screaming bloody murder about this if "results" like this favored a Democrat in a close race in, say, Ohio.

They are not going to renounce or denounce a sacred text from Mr Rove. Period.

the ISP phone number was engaged all night. Then they got the blue screen of precinct death. MS support told them to reformat the disk and reinstall Windows. Then the phone went down again and they could activate it. The Romney campaign sent in IT guys to recover the data, but thought it best to start with military grade hard disk securitization. The hard drives were sent back to Boston to replace some of those that went missing when the (former) Governor left..
