America is NOT for sale

The number one lesson from this election is that Wall Street and billionaires like the Kochs were not able to buy the Presidency. As pernicious as Citizens United is--and it must be overturned--the people triumphed over money in elections for the Presidency and the Senate. We won these elections because we worked hard and turned out every last vote. Congratulations, everyone!

America CANNOT be bought! That's the MOST IMPORTANT lesson of this campaign! Will it be a lesson learned, or a lesson defied? Or ignored? Or denied? Don't forget who and what we're up against - STILL. These people don't like taking "no" for an answer. I suspect they'll be huddling in their little groups and think tanks and lavish retreats, trying to figure out how to get around it or flat-out steal it next time.

Don't EVER trust these people. We have to stay vigilant. It's not just about winning. You have to stay in charge once you've won.

We need to overturn Citizens United. We need to keep mobilizing, especially in non-presidential elections because that is when the GOP gains control of state legislatures. That puts them in charge of redistricting, which makes it very difficult to change the composition of the US House. We also need to keep Republicans out of state offices, like Secretaries of State that control elections. We need also need election reforms so that voters no longer need to stand in long lines. We need to make sure that voter suppression is prosecuted and change laws, if necessary, to make sure people who try to keep others from voting do jail time. We have A LOT of work to do.

Much is won and lost in midterms elections when few Democrats turn out. State legislatures are set and Secretaries of State are elected. We need to keep organizing for 2014, not just 2016.
