Mia Love (R) loses House bid in Utah

(CNN) - With 100% of the precincts counted, CNN projects Utah's incumbent Republican (DEMOCRATIC) Rep. Jim Matheson won re-election after besting Mia Love in a high-profile congressional race that captured national attention.

Matheson, no stranger to tough elections, is a six-term Democrat in a largely Republican district that includes Salt Lake City.

Love, a Mormon of Haitian descent, currently serves as mayor of Utah's Saratoga Springs. She was considered a rising star in the Republican Party, and spoke at the Republican National Convention in August. At one point, she rose to a double-digit lead in polls in one of the nation's most hotly contested races. Both sides and outside parties collectively spent upwards of $10 million.

I am SO VERY HAPPY that she lost. I watched her speech at the GOP convention and I was hoping she would lose

I am so glad this phony, token black darling of the pasty white Utah reich wing went down in flames. I almost feel sorry for her but I loathe her more.

They used her. She let them use her. She should feel embarrassed.

Go Jim Matheson! In spite of massive redistricting efforts, he still pulled it out. I am so relieved today and so proud of Jim Matheson!
