2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHere's what needs to be done about those heckling morons
Identify a few of the worst offenders. Like the "no unity no trust" guy. It shouldn't be difficult since fellow delegates nearby will hear.
Once a handful are identified like a half dozen or so revoke their credentials and ban them from the floor, and make this VERY public and clear to all delegations.
The rest of those idiots will likely get the message and shut up. If they don't...easier to find. I'd beef up on security for night two in order to eject anyone still heckling. And not after the night us over. In real time.

I think we have to be careful to recognize that unpleasant, unwanted noise can be produced by small numbers of people and catapulted into overstated perhaps grossly overstated generalities.

(13,570 posts)a personal preference. Stop overblowing those dumb emails. True, some people sent a few emails that said some dumb things, but that's no big widespread conspiracy that had any impact on anything. Of course most people who were longtime members of the party were going to personally support the candidate who was a longtime member of the party. That was never any question. Did the DNC deny Bernie resources? Did they wage any kind of huge campaign widespread campaign to undermine him? NO and NO. These emails are being WAY overblown. No, they shouldn't have happened, and some heads do need to roll over it. At the same time, let's not blow it up into more than it is.
Much of this negative feeling between certain DNC office people and the Bernie campaign occurred when Bernie's team went after the DNC from the fallout of THEIR guy misusing Hillary's data lists. Weaver bashed the DNC and moved to sue when it was THEIR screw up and they didn't like the sanction. So that episode caused some bad blood between Bernie's people and the DNC. Put it all in context please.

(7,638 posts)Probably saying things that would get me banned here. But when I posted here I knew the rules and followed them. You don't have facts or examples of any favoritism happening, you have a bunch of people talking shit in emails. If you want to indict for that, you may want to ask Comey how that would work out.

(711 posts)That is usually how the world works and almost guarantied to be a success both now and in the long run. It is hard to understand why nobody in DNC have thought of using that approach as it is both effective and easy to implement.

(26,060 posts)and they show up drunk or loud and obnoxious, insulting the hosts, do you let them stay? Well, that's what these imbeciles are doing at the Democratic convention - being complete and utter assholes. There's an ocean of difference between escorting them out and shipping them off to camps. Sounds like you could use a lesson in telling the difference.

(6,121 posts)There were the competing ones shouting/chanting "Bernie" and "Hillary" including during Bernie's speech; "TPP No" during the afternoon speakers from the platform committee; "Black Lives Matter" during some surprising moments including during Bookers's speech; and some specific and general booing.
Cummings was booed probably because he was involved in the campaign attacks on Bernie's civil rights record, and he was also a focus of those strongly opposed to TPP. EDIT To correct that Cummings was not part of the black congressional caucus that had attacked Sanders on civil rights. Cummings had been formally neutral until April.
While there was some rude behavior, there was far less than at contested conventions in the past, and none of the violence common in the past. Given the emotions of the day, it was remarkably civil. -- far more so than here at DU.

(129,558 posts)I know all blacks look alike but there is a difference between Elijah Cummings and John Lewis (who as a former head of SNCC, was the one who commented on Sanders' involvement, not Elijah Cummings) -
Elijah Cummings
John Lewis
What they did was a DISGRACE. They attacked the opening speakers - all of whom were POC. First impressions are the most indelible and I will never forget.

They are welcome to be a part of the greatest party ever or be ignored. Their choice.
Michelle made the point best: when they go low, we go high. That is how we conduct ourselves.
Ignore the noise. Remember who we are.

you do not get to control the reaction to that wrong with some iron hand. If you admit to a wrong then say 'but you can't be angry with me for doing that to you' you have not in fact apologized at all, you've just tried to evade repercussions. I think Donna is trying to look as if she means her apology to Sanders and his supporters.
It's also interesting to see people who can't bear others expressing unsavory opinions when this entire Party expected LGBT to hear unsavory materials out of candidates and vote for them anyway, to be blunt both members of our ticket opposed the rights of LGBT to marry just three years ago. Kaine has also been a vocal opponent of mere civil unions. His opinion has been that I am not worthy of equality. I'm supposed to get past that instantly for Tim, but others can't bear to hear some complaining from the losing side, even as the winning side issues formal apology for bad behavior? Get some perspective.
