RM asked her if she enjoyed mixing it up with the Donald.
Sen Warren declared she did not. In fact, if Donald Trump disappeared, she'd be " the happiest girl on the face of the earth!"
Well played, Liz. Well played.
On edit: look, I normally like Rachel Meadow. She's smart, dedicated and inquisitive. Plus, I think her heart is in the right place. But sometimes we all can get carried away. I don't like being called "girl" unless it's by someone I know and I know their motives. I think Bill's motives were good and decent and Rachel imposed her own feelings on a situation that didn't warrant them. She got carried away and Warren playfully called her on it.

(9,527 posts)You can disagree with her, but she's damned smart. I'm a guy and I don't feel comfortable referring to adult women as girls even in personal settings much less in front of an audience of millions.

(5,049 posts)And there is street smart. I was a college professor for 31 years. I have known many book smart students who couldn't figure out which end of a stake to pound in the ground. Rachael may be the smartest student in the classroom - but her street savy is lacking at times. In short - she misses and confuses social queues.
The President was not referring to a random woman in a room as a "girl" he was telling a story of their past. A story of a "boy" and a "girl" (yes he used both of those terms) falling in love in their youth. It was meant as a term of endearment. I'm giving the 69 year old former president the benefit of the doubt in telling the story of their relationship.

(58,666 posts)RM asked a couple of more questions, and gave Liz time to say how she was going to fight for Hillary, and to win more Senate seats.
I think people are reaching here for reasons to hate on Rachel.

(31 posts)but I never took to her. She seems to make some statement of outrage about something, then repeats it 2 or 3 times w/ slight word changes, & breathlessly goes on. When I do turn to her anymore our of boredom, I nver see her w/ a panel that's worth watching.
but I hardly watch her any more

(9,435 posts)own pontifications - to me the days of her posing a succinct question are long over and the sound of her own voice has become equally important (to herself) as the answer/opinion of the guest she is questioning.
Journalistic FAIL.

(45,251 posts)She breaks stuff down into tiny bits as if she has to explain it to an eight year old.
Then she drones on, trying to emote glee or squeakiness or whatever she's doing.
And, I think, in her mind, her viewers are very impressed.
I do think she is very smart. However, I always thought her show would benefit from more guests. I think she is at her best interviewing people who know what they are talking about.
Chris Matthews sprays them with spit, interrupts them, talks over them, etc. If you manage to learn anything from his guest, good on you. However, Maddow does let her viewers learn from her guest.
Of course both Maddow and Matthews, and indeed, everyone who keeps a job in the NBC family, will take whatever editorial slant NBC News tells them to take.
When I watch her show, I find myself wondering when on earth she is going to get to the point! I still like her, but I wish she would not drag out the back story for so long of whatever point she is trying to make.
How soon can Warren be my president? 2025?

(5,043 posts)No one is always perfect. I didnt think Warren was being mean spirited. Just having a bit of good natured fun.
After all RM's heart is in the right place and she's undeniably smart and dedicated.
But is was pretty funny.

(5,272 posts)can also just have a different lens through which they are seeing something, that rather than being trashed along with the person presenting that viewpoint, could be thoughtfully examined and respectfully disagreed with, which I see very little of on this board.
Post not really directed at you, but appreciated that you prefaced with kind words for the host.
