Best Line from President Obama's DNC 2016 speech

"It’s the painting I keep in my private office, a big-eyed, green owl, made by a seven
year-old girl who was taken from us in Newtown, given to me by her parents so I wouldn’t
forget – a reminder of all the parents who have turned their grief into action."

I wish there was a way for that image to be turned into a "Forever" stamp in honor of the children of Newtown, but it appears that it potentially wouldn't meet the criteria for a stamp design: "The stamp program commemorates positive contributions to American life, history, culture and environment; therefore, negative occurrences and disasters will not be commemorated on U.S. postage stamps or stationery".

That's a "positive" contribution. The backstory is what it is.

If 1) we could get a good pic of just the owl, 2) could get some folks to pledge the amount, then the USPS will make stamps of the photo. If we can order 51 sheets or more (20 stamps/sheet) then the cost is $19.60. They are not, unfortunately, 'forever' stamps,

See http://photo.stamps.com/Store/learn-more/ for all the details.

I am a strong supporter of gun control and common sense regulations. The image of those horrified children marching away, hand-to-shoulder is one I will never forget.

The pictures of him slumped over and being held up by a sofa are
sobering.

Years later the kids at Sandy Hook still bother him.

You go through one of those disappearing doors in the wall to get to it.

He's not the first POTUS to use it--it's why the Oval looks so neat all the time--most of the work is not actually done there in recent years.

LBJ used the Oval heavily--but he had a bank of three televisions tuned to the major networks (NBC ABC CBS) in that room and he needed the space. He also had a news wire IN the office! He couldn't google but he could stay on top of breaking news...!

I thought his line comparing the feelings of black mothers when their sons go out and the wives of police officers when they put on the uniform and go out the door was excellent. It painted the picture of the common humanity we possess in very graphic and timely terms.

No matter the push back and defeats by Congress on gun control, the inspiration of that photo to fight on will never cease. It should become a permanent fixture in the White House.
