fascinating graphic of voting trends from last night's election


(blue = became more Dem, red= became more Repub)

animated version at link, more options as well. This tells me that African Americans were really motivated, more than even in 08 (the 'black belt" is very clear across the south) and we are seeing Hispanics start to influence Texas more. Appalachia remains appalling.

2. The 2012 graphic shows just the change, not a sequence from the 2008 result to the 2012 result.

When you click on the 2012 button, the red are the areas where the shift in 2012 was toward the right. But any of those areas could represent a change from very blue to a bit less blue and still be shown as red because the change was toward the right.
