Popular Vote

Now that this election is over, we can now say that between 1992 and 2012, the republicans have only won the popular vote once, in the presidential elections.

1992=Lost by 6 million votes

1996=Lost by 8.5 million votes

2000=Lost by 550,000 votes

2008=Lost by 9 million votes

2012=Lost by at least 3 million votes

Only in 2004 did they win the popular vote and that was by 3 million.

I think this is an important thing we need to wonder about. What does it mean for the republicans if in 6 elections, they lost the popular vote 5 times. Does that mean their party is slowly dying?

They are playing to the demographics that we saw in the 70's, 60's, and 50's. The United States has changed. It is a more diverse country than it used to be and unless the party can stop leaning on 65 year old white men they could very well fade away.

Party slowing down? Nah, they just haven't been able to suppress more voters.
