Listening to john Rothman on KGO 810 radio in San Francisco,

(20,587 posts)it would be a mistake to not change the schedule. trump would have to find a new excuse not to debate.

(5,417 posts)The NFL has had Monday night football since the 70's. They can't now claim they didn't know there would be a football game on at the same time.

"Our Mission
The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) was established in 1987 to ensure that debates, as a permanent part of every general election, provide the best possible information to viewers and listeners. Its primary purpose is to sponsor and produce debates for the United States presidential and vice presidential candidates and to undertake research and educational activities relating to the debates. The organization, which is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) corporation, sponsored all of the presidential debates in 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012."

The CPD can only select from places willing to hold the debates. They do not have full control over where and when those will be.
Plus there are those who would rather watch a political debate than football - I'm one of them.

(58,724 posts)I can assure you that is not true.

(34,137 posts)Hofstra University does not have a football program and may not be as interested in having their students watch NFL football as they are in hosting a presidential debate.

(58,724 posts)It seems strange that they would want to put them opposite nationally televised NFL games.
Why not just have it on Tuesday?

(34,137 posts)Or maybe a year in advance they did not assume the football schedule would be the same - or maybe they were only concerned with regional teams.
I live in a town with a nationally renowned college football team. When groups I am in schedule events we try to avoid football weekends. If we need to schedule a year in advance we cannot be sure we will be able to since the team does not announce their schedule until six months before the season starts.
Ask the CPD and Hofstra why they set the schedule to compete with the NFL. As I said I don't care about football - other than to avoid it.

(58,724 posts)My only point is that they did know that Monday Night Football was a thing.
It hardly seems relevant which two teams happen to be scheduled to play on that particular Monday night.

(3,166 posts)had nothing to do with , it is the election committee that sets the date
Trump, as someone else said , talking out of his ass
Trump is full of crap, as usual.
But I was just talking about the remark from the article in the OP where they said they didn't know what the NFL schedule was. That was a dumb remark.
