Anyone who reads this blog knows I have supported Jill Steins candidacy for president for a while now. She was my original choice until Bernie Sanders came along, and I moved back to Stein when Sanders didnt clinch the nomination.
I even tried very hard to defend not only Steins but the Green Partys anti-science beliefs. I can deal with some candidacy issues because not everyone is perfect, but there is a limit to how much a science advocate can take. That limit for me is downright lying about science, and over pandering to fear mongers.
I can no longer do that. I must speak out and I must abandon my endorsement of Stein and leave the Green Party.
Vaccines
First, she seemed wishy-washy on vaccines. She says they work, but then says they contain toxins and makes them sound as if they need more testing. I defended her original comments, but I denounced her latest. Since I already wrote about that at length, I wont do so again here, but you can read my thoughts about her and vaccines here.
Now, she has posted a tweet that says there is no evidence vaccines cause autism, deleted it, and reposted it saying she doesnt know of any evidence.
Her comments about vaccines are irresponsible and reprehensible. She should be ashamed.

I wish more would understand that simple statement.

(5,082 posts)my mother is a conservative. She thinks trump is a madman lunatic racist. But she can't vote for Hillary because she doesn't trust her or Bill. She voted for Bill. She also a victim of a cheating husband. She told me she's voting for Stein. I was stunned. It just showed me the normal conventions have been thrown out the door. Assume nothing. People have had it. But Jill and Gary will split the disenchantment vote so I see talking about Stein as a waste of time.

(5,082 posts)Check the pretentious condescension. If you don't think people have had it with politics and undelivered promises then you don't pay attention. My mother isn't voting for Trump so I don't get your comment. Don't shoot the messenger. My point is don't worry the sky isn't falling and it's a two way race. But also that there has been a political paradigm shift of unpredictability based on old parameters. Be aware and adjust when need be. As far as how great things are I can tell you this. I'm in desperate need of an MRI. My insurance won't cover it I explained how awful that is to my nurse. She said she went bankrupt because her insurance wouldn't cover her MRIs either. Most people don't have politics as their hobby. This majority is hurting still and needs assistance.

(5,082 posts)That's the point. Not sure what your issue is. Maybe you support Stein. My point is if we want to win we better start identifying the actual problems and not underestimate the enemy We don't need any quacks or shallow analysis in how to defeat Trump. Being afraid of a straw man like Stein is wasting time. She is no threat. Turning off voters and turnout is the biggest threat. This is serious business.
