Under what circumstances do you envision him being "replaced"?

He'd have to be forced into it ... or have some sort of genuine medical emergency (not related to mental health).

Is he even still active in politics?

If the Republicans are going to replace Trump I think Paul Ryan would be their best bet. He was the one speaker I heard at their convention who was articulate, not spewing hate, and actually put forth a vision for the party and the country. I remember thinking that I was glad he is not their nominee.

If they replace Trump, there will be hell to pay from the his cult followers. I can only imagine the kind of violence replacing him before the election will incite. And, I think the GOP bosses realize this. I don't think they'll pull him.

She has bad-mouthed Trump enough that she won't get their support. They'll probably all stay home. There are enough of them that this would make a difference.

And, I don't think she'll suck away many Democratic votes, especially when people get to know her. She's my governor, and trust me, she's not the moderate she has been trying portray herself as. The confederate flag would still be flying on the statehouse grounds had not the Charleston massacre occurred. Our health insurance premiums are the most expensive in the country and she refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA. The state computer system has had massive data breaches under her watch, to a level where the state is paying for a life-long identity theft monitoring for all of us who were affected by it. She refused to fund the state's PBS program. Our roads and bridges are falling apart. And, on and on and on...

Not that it matters, because, more than likely, Trump is going to remain their candidate.

George W. Bush was a pretty awful governor too.

I would not be at all surprised if Nikki Haley were to be the Republican nominee in 2020.

Trump when they actually had the chance. The RNC transformed their party in Trump's image. George Pataki can't undo that.

He'll have lawsuits going across the country for the next eight years like the birthers did with President Obama.
