2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI know no one will care and I know this will get just REAMED
But, I am out.
I had a great time this weekend. I really enjoyed the convention last week and I asked myself, "Why did you ever leave here??"
I was reminded today. I posted something that I still think could become a problem for Dems both in the election and for Obama and was called a concern troll and accused (I think?? It was a little obsure...) of being a conservative operative trying to...I don't know. I am not real sure what the point of that was.
Have fun!! I am not tough enough for you guys. Continue to pat yourselves on the back and enjoy Trump imploding!!

(22,048 posts)You write well and articulate your views exactingly. Keep it up.

I suspect that you're a lot tougher than some keyboard warrior's attempt to knock you down.

I'm sure that's not you at all.

Don't let overzealous posters drive you away. We need more love and kindness on DU, too.

(4,734 posts)I haven't posted in either of your prior threads but I did follow both. Here's what I observed. You presented something which was new news to you. It was alarming because based on the facts presented it has the potential to hurt Democrats. Once people explained the specifics of the issue, you acknowledged it but the way the media was presenting it still had you very concerned.
From there, it's all about how we react to media narratives in real time. None of us have control over how CNN or NBC or FOX covers a story. So some people brush it off when they know the facts. Others scream in frustration over the inaccuracy. And the remainder sit back to see how big of a problem it can become.
All reactions are legit. But if you were expecting other people to have the same visceral reaction, the same outrage or the same concern, I can get why that could be maddening.
I do believe most people, understood the points you were making. Some may have been dismissive of the issue but I think most people understood why you are genuinely concerned about this story being twisted.

(82,383 posts)is not really fair or true. We should be enjoying this one as there is very little that could become a problem and the opposition is killing itself. We just don't like being brought down all the time. And that Iran thing was fail for the M$M and Trump from the start. It is not something to worry about. It would be one thing to "worry" that the M$M could make something of it that could affect people, but when DUers claim to be worried about pure BS, we push back.

(21,086 posts)there was a time when I was called a deviant, a communist, a sociopath and my favorite-have been dismissed as a lousy stinkin' moderate 5 or 6x.
So, do what you feel. I usually just reach for ignore and move on. Or if its a dicey day, I just don't sign in and then I won't post.

(30,481 posts)A moderator here had a conversation on another board asking their members to bait me. Yes, directly used my handle in an open conversation. To this day said person replies to me about once every other week or and self-deletes minutes later. I find it to be amusing.
I don't go around claiming I have thick skin. I don't think that is required if you are comfortable with yourself.

(42,862 posts)... minority on this web site for such a long time. It's difficult to give up old habits after being one the defense for such a long time. It's likely that the heightened "intruder alert" senses are overreacting and misreading the clues that could signal someone's intentions.
It could be that your user name is "new" (or unfamiliar) and suspicions are easily aroused.
Give it a little longer. Stick around.
It's just a discussion web site. You're anonymous. We're anonymous. Try not to take it too seriously.

(44,182 posts)a little trigger happy. I think things will settle down in a little while.
Kinda wanted to write a thread about it, but
1. It would be meta
2. I'm too lazy

(740 posts)...very issue recently because it's getting bigger and bigger. I think the newest trolling is to call people 'concern trolls' to create more disunity.
Can we not use fear of infiltration to invalidate peoples' actual feelings? Concern trolls are pretty obvious.

(3,433 posts)I was ready to leave because the behavior on this site is deplorable. The petty childish tantrums and personal attacks for daring to question is tiresome. There is a lack of consistency that I find incredibly hypocritical but it isn't going away. Sometimes I grow tired enough to quit all together but then I will see someone who is able to engage in intelligent discussion without allowing emotionalism and the "narrative" get in the way. It gives me hope.. so I stick around.

(15,812 posts)IIRC, that's the post folks thought you were concern trolling on. Perhaps you just hadn't caught up to the real news of that particular story. It happens.

(30,817 posts)I know - it's happened to me more than a few times, and it's not a happy feeling at all.
I posted in your thread. I thought it was fine - you made a legitimate point. DUers are always on the lookout for trolls, including the insidious 'concern troll.' I expect that was why you had so much pushback.
I hope you stay. I'm not tough enough either, but I muddle through, and overall enjoy participating in discussions here very much.
