A new poll has Trump in fourth — behind Gary Johnson AND Jill Stein — with young people

A new poll has Trump in fourth — behind Gary Johnson AND Jill Stein — with young people

Under 30 years old (Millennials) poll results:

Hillary Clinton (D) - 41%
Gary Johnson (L) - 23%
Jill Stein (G) - 16%
Trump (R) - 9%

This is from McClatchy-Marist, a well-respected polling source.

The Rethuglicans go the way of the Whig Party, the Democrats become the new moderate party and the Greens take the role of the progressive party?

America is truly a progressive country. Have you seen this poll??

Nowhere near as batshit loony as Stein/Baraka.

They deserve to be treated seriously if we want to compete for younger voters and disaffected republicans.

I think young people are drawn to Johnson's ticket due to his wonderful stances on progressive social issues. We need to emphasize to Millennials the libertarians draconian economic views. No safety net, etc.

among millennials (T 21%, J 22%) , with a new Fox poll also getting those results. Stein was not included.

Please note that libertarian economic policies are typically strongly to extremely conservative. That 43% of millenials would vote for a libertarian or conservative party candidate is not exactly a mandate for "progressivism." Very much the opposite.

Happily, on the progressive side, 47% of millennials in the Pew poll and 50% in the Fox poll chose Clinton.

Few of us under 25 care/understand economic policy.

Young people tend to be progressives but it's because the Republicans have lost us on lgbt/gender and race issues.

At least for all but the mildest libertarians, which I believe these candidates are selling themselves as to people who don't really know what libertarianism is. I've read many libertarians are not happy with them.

Research on libertarian as a personality type suggests perhaps 13% of the population may be libertarian -- people who truly hold personal freedom above all other moral values, for some so much that others may not come into play in most situations, but a lot more research is needed. The numbers in most political polls and surveys are highly questionable because they ask people to self-identify, and "libertarianism" as a political stance is rather "in" these days.

I do suspect Paul Ryan may be the real thing. His economic plan is so out there that several watering-downs have not made it adoptable by a Republican congress that itself is economically very conservative. He was also something like 39 years old when he enthusiastically recommended all his staff read Ayn Rand, not exactly a kid.
