Related: About this forumDonald Trump really does NOT want to be President.
He can't want it. If he even had the slightest interest he wouldn't be doing the s*it he's doing. I wonder if he is just trying to destroy the US.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed Japan, an ally of the United States, can sit home and watch Sony television if the U.S. is ever attacked.
You know we have a treaty with Japan, where if Japan is attacked, we have to use the full force and might of the United States, Trump said during an appearance in Iowa on Friday. If were attacked, Japan doesnt have to do anything. They can sit home and watch Sony television, OK?

Trump told The New York Times in July that he would judge NATO members spending on security before helping them face down a potential invasion. The businessman had previously stated he wants Japan, Germany, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and NATO countries to pay up.

Earlier this week, a group of foreign policy experts ― including several Republicans ― denounced what they called the disgraceful Trump comments on NATO, along with his call for Russia to find Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clintons missing emails from her time as U.S. secretary of state.

Somewhere, Trump must have seen that and thought,"That's a great idea. I can do that!"

(2,902 posts)it buys into the theory that when he called the Clintons, they said he should run.

(20,584 posts)whatever he does or says inflates his own ego. He is making a new path (in his mind) that people want to follow - only he can fix everything. He is so convinced of his own greatness and those who do not agree just don't understand the magnitude of his brilliance. He and his family want the trappings of the presidency - not the work of it.

(10,857 posts)They're both narcissists. Both stupid and inattentive. Both think they're a lot more competent than they actually are. Both are astonishingly easy to manipulate. Bush hated preparing for debates, and said nearly as much at the debates. Trump is already maneuvering to avoid them altogether.
But what they both love is running for President. For narcissists, it seems to be the ultimate attraction, seeing themselves on the big screens and being cheered by the carefully selected, adoring crowds. That is what they really care about, that, and the illusion of unlimited power over others.
Bush showed us something else highly important as well, which is that a narcissist on his game is just a sociopath with a larger ego, with no empathy, no remorse, and no regrets. There are no limits to what Trump will say or do to realize his ambitions, and he has already surrounded himself with others like him, only smarter and more evil. His only limits are what he, an evil, totally incompetent fool, grandiosely thinks he can get away with.

(13,390 posts)But, if it is theater as in an extension of his foray into reality TV, his being the nominee alone could be a sick joke on us all. Many for falling for a hyperbolically ignorant, racist candidate, and many more for worrying about what a horrifying possibility it is.
What btter way to be powerful without having to do the real work? He wants to be seen as talented and powerful. Turning his candidacy into a fraudulant joke could deliver both.
We should not discount him AT ALL. But, he does seem to be an incredibly lazy candidate who isn't very interested in what it would really mean to conduct the duties of a president.
