The group, Better for America, has been working for months on trying to select a candidate and get on ballots throughout the country. In some states, like Texas, they will likely have to sue to get on the ballot. It's an extreme uphill climb, but they are confident McMullin, 40, can act as a disruptor who they hope can peel off some red states in a race where some Republicans are still resistant to Donald Trump

Conservative Donors Group Presses Ballot Access for a Third-Party Candidate

The idea is to do a proof of concept for everybody, Mr. Kingston said. It exists, there is a pathway, there is a road that you can be going down.
The Massachusetts man was heavily involved in efforts led by the Weekly Standard editor William Kristol to find a challenger to both Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump for a third-party line. His approach is similar to one used by a group, Americans Elect, in 2012, when it tried creating a ballot line unattached to a major party.
Better for America has Mr. Kingston working with the pollster Joel Searby as the chief strategist, as well as the lawyers Mohammad Jazil and Matthew Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was the general counsel for the Texas business magnate H. Ross Perots Reform Party presidential run in 1996. Anne MacDonald, who was the chief of staff to the first lady Laura Bush, is also advising the group.
My god - they sure are good at eating their own.
So in June - in June they were planning this. Ha! What a sham that shit show convention they held was!
ETA - Better for America's site where they claim that this year :eyeroll: is 'different' - more than 2/3 of Americans want an alternative candidate/

And yet unmarried and childless in his 40s?
Either someone brilliant is on our side under deep cover or the lord works in mysterious ways. What a fucking election.

(15,805 posts)Trump's new economic advisors are all Wall Streeters, multi billionaires and they are also his biggest donors, his friends, and did I mention theyre also all men? And this new horse in the race, like Trump, is another MBA from the Wharton School, and formerly worked in investments at Goldman Sachs. McMullin is being pushed by the billionaire backers of the Never Trump movement.
So if the wealthy Never Trumpers can draft some unknown guy to run as a third-party challenger to Trump, there's not much daylight between the two battling battalions of billionaires, who are fighting over who gets to eat us.

(989 posts)Hillary was pulling a lot of never-Trump GOP. They will now flock to McMullin. Trump supporters will never vote for anyone but Trump. That actually makes it tougher for Hillary.

(3,660 posts)High profile public elites aside (who are a tiny fraction of a nine digit electorate) she is polling just 4% of Romney voters, and that's not unusually high so there is no reason to suspect it is a desperate flight from Trump rather than normal swing voter vacillation.
Splitting the R vote can do nothing but help Ds. My only fear, or eather frankly expectation, is he'll pull no more on the R side than Stein will pull from the D side, making no real difference. The more he gets the happier I'll be.

Not going to hurt her in the least. We can still win without Utah and Arizona.
As much as some folks in America want to paint Clinton as this blood sucking closet Conservative - she's not. That's why the 'right' has been going after her for 25 years.
