2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumProgressive NC champion: Patsy Keever
ActBlue sent out a notification of his race, and Patsy Keever seems to be just the antidote NC needs. She has a primary against a conservative Dem on May 8, but if she wins that, she's up against good old Patrick McHenry.
She's truly a breath of fresh air, but badly needs some donations. I believe she's received the LEAST amount of everyone on the ActBlue site.

(9,298 posts)Born and raised in Charlotte, Patsy graduated from Duke University before moving to Buncombe County, where she has been positive force in her community for more than 40 years.
I was not very familiary with Patsy until I visited her website. Here's a snippet:
##snip##
"Patsy taught in the public schools for 25 years while raising a family that now includes grandchildren. While still teaching, she was elected to three terms on the Buncombe County Commission and served for 12 years.
"After the death of her husband John, Patsy ran for the U.S. Congress in 2004 against Charles Taylor in NC District 11. Her spirited campaign inspired a new level of political participation in the region and an awareness that true power resides in the hands of the citizens.
"After her race for Congress, Patsy married Jim Aycock, retired publisher of the Black Mountain News. She also participated in a triathlon, delighted in her three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren and planted a vegetable garden.
"In 2010, Patsy ran for the NC House of Representatives. She won the Democratic primary and was appointed by Gov. Perdue to serve the remainder of Rep. Bruce Goforths term after his resignation. Patsy was elected to the NC House on November 2, 2010, and during her first term she has supported quality education for all children, clean air and water, meaningful work for all who seek it and equal rights for all our citizens."

Murphy Campaign
(2 posts)I am writing on behalf of the Timothy Murphy Campaign.
Timothy Murphy is one of three Democrats seeking the nomination in NC 10. Mr. Murphy could never be confused for a conservative.
He is one of the most progressive candidates to have ever sought office in North Carolina's 10th District.
Never having having sought any elected office, he has no legislative record to point to to support this claim, but a quick look at his campaign website should make his liberal positions clear.

(1 post)Having known and worked with Timothy Murphy for the last six years, I can attest to his Democrat values. He has the drive , the commitment, and the common sense ideas that will better serve the people of the NC10th District. I urge all like minded Democrats to take a look at him and the issues he is passionate about , and they will see he is THE choice for us.

(94,571 posts)NC-10 is rated as "Solid Republican" with a PVI of R+14. If you want a progressive candidate to make a statement; go fo it. If you want a Democratic pickup, find a candidate who's a little more in line with the politics of the district.

(2 posts)NC10 has been a Republican seat since 1968, but that's not a true picture of our area. Republicans have done a good job of exploiting the area's natural bent toward religion and conservatism for political gain, but there are still more registered Democrats than Republicans. The trick is to get them to vote (and vote Democrat). The way to reach them is by calling upon the spirt of the New Deal and the Great Society. It also helps that McHenry is a TERRIBLE Congressman (compared both to any rational standard and to his Republican predecessors)
The new lines still make it a challenge, but this year it will be a contest.
