Those who have been asking what divisive controversy the Donald Trump campaign might produce next are getting their answer. This week has already seen Trump calling for Hillary Clinton’s death and accusing President Obama of having founded ISIS, as many have begun questioning if his mental state is deteriorating. But now this evening’s Trump rally in central Florida, which is just now getting underway, has a giant Confederate flag with the words “Trump 2016” emblazoned on it.

The Confederate flag has been the center of controversy over the past year due to its association with the pro-slavery forces which fought against the United States in the Civil War. South Carolina finally removed the flag from its statehouse amid significant pressure after it was cited as a rallying cry by the mass-shooter in Charleston. But now the flag is suddenly taking a prominent role at tonight’s Donald Trump rally.

According to CNN, the Trump campaign asked the owner of the flag to remove it from the rafters for obvious reasons, and he complied but then put the flag back up on display just moments later. Notably, the campaign declined to outright confiscate the flag or to eject the attendee displaying it, suggesting that rather than wanting the flag to come down, they simply want the deniability of being able to say they tried to stop it...............................
