2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe SWEETEST WORDS Donald Trump has ever said!!!!
Donald Trump trumpeted a confident assessment of his campaign on Thursday night, saying there was no need for him to encourage voters to head to the polls on election day.
Asked by Fox News Eric Bolling about the open letter by 70 Republicans asking the Republican National Committee to redirect funding from the presidential race to down-ballot campaigns, Trump said he didnt need their assistance.

We are gonna have tremendous turnout from the evangelicals, from the miners, from the people that make our steel, from people that are getting killed by trade deals, from people that have been just decimated, from the military who are with Trump 100 percent, he went on. From our vets because Im going to take care of the vets.
I dont know that we need to get out the vote, the Republican nominee concluded. I think people that really want to vote, theyre gonna just get up and vote for Trump. And were going to make America great again.

(4,404 posts)Like, even a total moron would know they have to have foot level organizing in place for a presidential campaign, right? RIGHT?
You need local branches and ad people and GOTV organizers... I mean, even the average person on the street knows you need these kinds of things to run a major campaign. HOW IN THE HELL did this moron make it those far!?
It's MIND BLOWING.

(23,544 posts)Lots of their reporting then was positive. Lots of free exposure that Bernie never got even when Bernie's numbers were better than his and he had many more people at his rallies than trump did. The media helped create the monster.

(10,495 posts)They used their media companies to ignore, then ridicule Bernie and his supporters to keep them from really going mainstream. No one wants to support someone who is being made fun of on a national level to the extent Bernie was/is.
This is something we will have to fight through in order to bust up the media oligarchy and get rid of the root cause of most of our countries problems, the legal bribes in the form of campaign contributions.
We need to win this presidential election, but also put everything we can in the down ballot races to give Hillary a chance to push our agenda forward and once again start to repair the damage caused by the corrupt Republican Party.

(4,113 posts)Look at the historical percentage of voter turnout vs. eligible voters in POTUS elections. And Trump talks like he's got things in control as he and Pence speak in facilities that get emptier with each passing week.

(1,965 posts)I think that question speaks directly to the racism, bigotry and outright sheer stupidity of a large section of the "murkin" public. Maybe a larger segment that what we like to acknowledge, but there are some real ding-bats running loose, out there.

Although many of his supporters would likely stay home or write in his name, but why take the chance?

(204 posts)While on the campaign trail I decided to visit Trumptown. Walking through the streets of this great city I looked into the empty shops, saw the shutters hanging askew next to the soiled windows, sensed the chill wind at my back pushing me forward. It seemed such a sad little place scented with the odor of desolation and despair. And as I departed a tumbleweed skutted past, rasping on the dry asphalt.

I just hope Putin, Wikileaks and the GOP spent millions trying to get this traitor scum elected!

Whatever the polls are saying, add a few to Hillary who has a real organization which will help on election day. The media aren't including this in projections, but it makes for the possibility of a historic ass kicking.

(10,893 posts)the worst political campaign I've seen in my life, and perhaps the worst in history. He doesn't run ads, he doesn't have a ground game, he lacks a detailed agenda, he purposefully offends people, he can't handle hecklers or protestors, and he actually tells supporters to be complacent and assumes that the whole country likes him. Once this election is over, there should be a documentary filmed on how NOT to run a political campaign, featuring him.
