They don't want to be seen as giving up on Trump before many of their base voters do also, out of fear that they will get blamed for their "disloyalty" contributing to Trump's defeat. Some Trump supporters hold out hope that the debates can still change the dynamic of this race to Trump's benefit. Once that hope is punctured it will be safer for Republican politicians to disavow Trump. It's not like they are exactly pillars of courage.
