Apparently, My Memory is Failing …

Imagine my embarrassment when I heard Rudy Guiliani state that “Before Obama came along, we didn’t have any successful radical Islamic terrorist attacks inside the United States. They all started when Clinton and Obama got into office.” I am completely humiliated to now learn that for some reason, I had apparently mis-remembered the events of September 11, 2001.

I was absolutely convinced that I’d seen literally weeks of footage showing NYC’s World Trade Towers being struck by planes, and the aftermath that followed that horrific event. It is still so vivid in my mind: the debris filling downtown streets, the cloud of ash falling everywhere, people appearing on-camera for days on end, begging for word of their loved ones who never came home, cops and firefighters searching for possible survivors while mourning the loss of their own comrades who had perished while trying to save the lives of others.

And here I sit, fifteen years later, being told – by the man who was mayor of NYC at the time – that this event never happened, because “there were no successful Islamic terrorist attacks in the US before Clinton and Obama got into office”. Again, I once would have sworn that George W. Bush was in office on 9/11 – apparently I was mistaken.

I should have seen the signs of my failing memory long before today. You see, I also honestly believed that Dubya was in office when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans – and yet I have seen surveys where Republican voters have stated that President Obama’s reaction to that event was too slow and totally disorganized, resulting in the deaths of thousands of NOLA residents who could have been saved by a president’s quick actions.

Recognizing that I have “remembered” things that never happened is a humiliating experience. Perhaps it is merely old age that has caused me to recall things so differently than how they allegedly occurred. Or perhaps it is the onset of Alzheimer’s, or some other disease that has infiltrated my brain, that leads me to believe that the events of 9/11 were a “successful Islamic terrorist attack” that actually happened.

And so I am left to wonder: Are people who remember things differently than the Republican version of history crazy? Or are people with advanced memory loss the Republican “base”?

I’m still a staunch Democrat – so maybe I am not too far gone. I still cling to my memories of the events of 9/11 as reflective of something that actually occurred. So I’ll be one of those crazy people voting (D) in November, while those who have recently discovered that a “successful Islamic terrorist attack” never happened will be voting – ironically enough – for a candidate who has one of those inexplicable crop circles sitting right on the top of his head.

Priceless, Nance! Err, it is Nance, right? My memory is so wacky these days----I could've sworn that Flight 93 crashed in rural PA while President Bush was flying around in Air Force One and Vice President Dick Cheney was hiding in a bunker!

I guess we're just delirious...

It was President Obama flying around while Bill Clinton was hiding in a bunker.

And why either was doing so is beyond me - why all the dramatics over an incident that never happened?

And my name is Nansushka, Patron Saint of the Mis-Remberers - but you can still call me Nance.

Got a bad case of it -- again -- when old Rudy said that. It always seems to be accompanied by a sore throat brought about by a simultaneous protracted "WWWHHHHAAAAAATTTTT????" At least this time I didn't have a mouthful of coffee, and for that I am thankful (and so's my computer).

... that Bill Clinton was responsible for 911. It's really common knowledge, and I am surprised that I have to point it out to you. Julie Annie merely stated the obvious... that no successful radical Islamic terrorist attacks inside the United States occurred before Obama and Hillary were in office that REPUBLICANS were responsible for.

Now go forth and sin no more.

I listened to Rambling Rudy this afternoon. The context of the entire statement (not just the 'before Obama came along' portion) was along the lines of 'after the 9/11 attacks, we passed the Homeland Security Act and didn't have any radical Islamic terrorist attacks for the next 8 years, until Obama came along'.

The first part was sort of buried in his usual mush-mouthed delivery, but it was clear that he was talking about post-9/11, if you actually listened to the words he mumbled.

Go to about 1:46:45 or so. He talks about the attacks in 1993 and 9/11, then mentions passing the Patriot Act, and segues into his 'no more attacks for the next 8 years until Obama and Clinton' stuff.

It's just before he confused Indiana snd Ohio when introducing Pence.

He was clearly talking about post-9/11 and Patriot Act, and it does us no favors to take him to task for just the latter portion of the statement.

It puts us in to the same box as the 'I didn't have sex with that woman' mis-quote of the Big Dog (the actual quote was, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky", where the phrase 'sexual relations' has a very specific legal meaning, and only refers to one specific type of sexual activity.)

Listen for yourself and see that, as tangled as his word were, he didn't really (only) say what we wanted to hear.

If anyone here ever doubted that Guiliani is a self-serving asshole who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, this video will surely serve to erase all doubt!

I realize that my reaction to this video was not what you'd envisioned or hoped for, but it really does expose certain people for who they really are.

Know what I mean?

... I think the statement “Before Obama came along, we didn’t have any successful radical Islamic terrorist attacks inside the United States" speaks for itself.

The "taken out of context and what he REALLY meant was" bullshit might play well among the brain-dead - but it's still bullshit, plain and simple.

It's all part of that meme - Bush kept us safe (well except for that one time, but after that, he kept us really really safe). It's kind of like talking to a pro-nuke puke who says that except for Fukushima and Chernobyl, nuclear energy has been perfectly safe.

And how about the good ol' "We've got to fight them over there, so they won't fight us here - see?"

I sometimes listen to one Repub or another talking about something from the past, and I wonder HOW I could have things so WRONG!

Did Obama invade Afghanistan before or after he declared that Iraq was holding WMDs? That's another one I seem to be confused about.
