It's all very well to play for the biggest prize but the downsize is the loss will be the biggest, most humiliating, degrading fail - EVAH.

(22,037 posts)It doesn't matter if Donald Trump entered the presidential race to win or simply to increase his brand. Both objectives are failures.
His campaign, such as it is, is disorganized to the point of near nonexistence. He doesn't have a ground game in place and the election is in less than 90 days. His advertising has been completely lacking. And any strategy that his advisors have developed is either incompetent or totally failing. Most importantly, in order to win the election, he needs to increase his following yet everything he does diminishes his support. His election loss could be among the biggest in US history.
His brand has been severely damaged by the endless stream of insults and un-American thoughts expressed by Mr. Trump. Bookings at his hotels are down over 20%. The PGA Tour moved one of its premier tournaments from Trump Doral in Florida because of Mr. Trump's racist ramblings. (The punchline: the PGA moved the event to Mexico!) Additionally, NBC has terminated all their business with Mr. Trump. These are not the signs of a growing brand or business.
And they're just a few examples of how Donald Trump has damaged his own reputation. His hardcore supporters won't care about any of this because he's rich and has a hot wife (sarcasm). But where he used to be seen as quirky or colorful, now he's been exposed for the complete jackass that he is. Why would anyone wear his clothes, buy his steaks or stay in his hotels now that we know so much about him? I certainly don't want to give him any of my money.
Donald Trump is a fool and an idiot.

(7,570 posts)No company that actually sells stuff to people is going to want their brand associated with this turd. There are only so many KKK members, and they never used that much toilet paper or toothpaste to begin with.

(37,428 posts)...into hundreds of millions in donations that he doesn't have to give back?
While preening for the cameras in twice-daily free airtime that didn't disqualify him from millions in tax breaks because he still can claim to spend 750 hours on his real-estate business? While becoming a bigger big shot than he's ever been before?
He may not have planned to win even the primary, but he may profit(eer).

(22,037 posts)It's highly unlikely that a candidate can take campaign contributions for their personal use. And it would take some big-time shenanigans to pull that off because of the scrutiny and oversight the campaigns are under.
At least, I hope this is the case!
