2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhoo boy. The most scathing takedown of Hannity for perpetuating HRC health lies
For more than two decades, the lunatic fringe has gradually taken control of the Republican Party, thanks to craven media figures like Fox Newss Sean Hannity.
A man who purports to be a dutiful Catholic, Hannity has made a career out of violating the ninth commandment (or eighth in his faith) against lying about others. If Hannity stopped vomiting up falsehoods, his program would be nothing but a test pattern. From him and the others in the Who cares if its false? conservative media camp, we have heard over the decades that Hillary and Bill Clinton murdered many people, that the Bush administration found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, that Obama could be on the verge of declaring martial law, and on and on.
<snip>
But now, Hannity and his ilk have gone too far with their recent lies about Hillary Clintons health, a conspiracy theory conservative media groups have seized upon with no regard for truth. They have used misrepresented photos, theories from quacks and other nonsense to back up their story line.
And then came a video of Clinton making goofy movements with her head when a reporter held a tape recorder very close to her face. Being pulled in different directions by multiple speakers at once, Clinton playfully acted like a bobblehead doll, smiling and then speaking after the joke was over.
Hannity and his lying pals shrieked: Clinton had a seizure! Right in front of the cameras! Are there many seizures like that? Hannity said. This looks like violent, out of control movements on her part.
I know this response to Sean Hannity is a little raw, but as someone with epilepsy, I hope my editors will let this slip through: Fuck you, Sean. Your willingness to deceive your viewersto degrade those of us with epilepsy, to suggest something is a seizure when it looks nothing like one, to leave people dumber about this conditionis unforgivable.

So many of these guys love going along for the anti-PC ride, not realizing there's a reason for PC. I look forward to the day he doesn't realize the thing he talks into is no longer a microphone.

(6,089 posts)I correct them all the time. I hate it when they do that. It just perpetuates the right wing propaganda machine! "If you are going to criticize HRC, do it from the left!" I tell them. Don't use right wing bullshit lies!
cali
(114,904 posts)that wingnuttery has to offer, that I don't have a clue as to why anyone from the left, would use the shit that spews from his and his cohorts pieholes, as evidence of anything but what vile creeps they are.

It's like leading a horse to water. They hate HRC with a passion. I try to educate, but to no avail. A lost generation of voters.
cali
(114,904 posts)Look, I opposed HRC long before I supported Bernie Sanders (or knew he was going to run), but I never hated her. I joined a certain website because I thought it was established for the purpose of supporting Sanders and his issues. Maybe that was the original intent, but it became all about hating HRC and how she was the poster child for EVIL.
Whenever I objected to that shit, I was piled on as a "hillbot".
The hate was chilling to me.
Hate is chilling to me, period.

(114,904 posts)And I really tried to discuss issues, but it was impossible. Everything circled back to HRC and how evil she is- no matter what the subject matter.

(7,188 posts)"Hillary is evil" in some context.
If the point is that the people on the other site or some people in general don't like HRC - got it. Don't need to keep repeating it in some fashion in virtually every post.
If really returning, then really move forward and move away from the need to keep including those phrases.
cali
(114,904 posts)I repudiate that word in reference to HRC.
Friendly words of advice that are illogical and have a suspect motivation, are something I wholly reject. Period. Twisting my words? Ugh. don't do it again, please.
Friendly? Give me a break.

(47,209 posts)They did not change one whit- same RW garbage they posted here. They're totally
just uncensored now.
cali
(114,904 posts)I'm not good with names and particularly not good with screen names. And there were a lot of DUers who invited me there who are not haters. I was invited to join at least 7x over several months. I confess to barely skimming it before joining, which was admittedly a mistake. But no, it's not "odd".
Cute dig. I've never noticed your name before. I'll remember it now, I'm sure.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)Again. It didn't morph into anything, was always about the hatred for Hillary and RW garbage. Shame there are a few people I really liked there too. But if they like being surrounded by that hatefulness I don't know what to think of them anymore. It's great your blinders eventually came off, better late than never.
cali
(114,904 posts)I know who he is. I don't mean personally. I mean historically, I know who these Donald Trump''s are.
We all have blinders to some degree or another, or rather we view things through a prism constructed by what we've learned and experienced.
And yes, this is indeed a smug dig: "It's great your blinders eventually came off, better late than never"
I don't trust HRC. I want her to win badly because the damage of a "strong man" in the Oval is unthinkably horrific to me.
She may earn my trust. I want her to. But at this point it's in abeyance, particularly on several issues.
It should not be necessary to fawn over her to post here. She's by far the better choice. That will just have to do for those of you who idolize.
I'm with my own idol, EM Forster, when it comes to idolizing politicians- and in the following quote, he is specifically referring to idolizing politicians.
"In search of a refuge, we may perhaps turn to hero-worship.
But here we shall get no help, in my opinion. Hero-worship is a
dangerous vice"
He also said this, in the same famous essay:
"Democracy has another merit. It allows criticism, and if there
is not public criticism there are bound to be hushed-"

(47,209 posts)Anything than what it always was. Those posters attacked women and POC here for many many months because of their blind hatred. Some were former Repulicans who were always pissed off about Dems giving any more than lip service to social justice issues and treated many good people here like garbage. For having different priorities. Some were all out rat fuckers. You missed it all- but many here were attacked for a long time, constantly alert stalked and insulted. I am
Sure you you saw plenty of it too. Now you have also had a taste. Not pretty is it?
I'm glad this site does not allow that harassment any longer. They have Reddit and the rest of the net for that bullshit.
cali
(114,904 posts)It's not only on one side, though I prefer, obviously DU- some of that has to do with there are some open minds here and that there are more people of good will, but I was relentlessly alert stalked, and there was a plan to get me kicked off DU, by some Hillary supporters who hatched said plan to get "ol' cali" kicked off DU on another site. I can't even imagine doing such shit.
(Oh, and there are more people here who are intellectually curious- and that is a big deal for me.)
As for rehashing the primaries, you appear to have engaged in just that- and I KNOW it wasn't all innocence on one side and all "bad" on the other.
Anyone who does think that, is wearing blinders or peering through a distorted lens; however one wishes to put it.
In any case, I think this exchange has nowhere else to go. If you want to respond, that's your business, but I'd prefer not to.

Hatred here toward dozens of long term members. It was just as undeserved. But HRC supporters here would have lived with a Sanders candidacy and worked for him- instead of spreading RW lies and hatred that that splinter group did- which is a huge difference that seems lost on you.
I guess like most people it had to happen to you to actually matter. Such is life.

(80,708 posts)the 20% or so hardcore Hannity/Trump defenders- man, those are some dumb fuckin' people.
The constant repetition of "lamestream media" makes me think maybe they're all Sarah Palin sockpuppet accounts.

(182,832 posts)This has been a low lying conspiracy theory on the right for some time now. The video that Newsweek mentioned is just the newest one. Photos of Hillary (or someone who sort of looks like Hillary) being helped up steps, grainy* photos of supposedly her holding an epi-pen, etc.
*the grainy photos are the ones that are the most ridiculous. Grainy photos in this day and age? I used to joke about how whenever someone just happened upon the Loch Ness monster or a Bigfoot they always seemed to have brought with them a camera that didn't focus very well. Now everything is digital and can be cleaned up unless you want to leave them slightly out of focus like these minor league RW websites appear to be content with.
