WILLIAMSBURG — The AFL-CIO expects Virginia unionists to lead the way in the labor movement's plans for its most ambitious get-out-the-vote effort yet, the union federation's national president said here Friday.
................

The AFL-CIO's political efforts this year have already included a nationwide series of surveys and focus groups with some 2,000 voters, exploring how to direct the anger Donald Trump has tapped with his statements on economics, trade and immigration toward policies the union movement thinks make more sense, Trumka said........................

In Virginia, another key issue will be the proposal to amend the state Constitution so that people who don't want to pay union dues will still benefit from the contracts their employers negotiate with unions, Trumka said.
