By virtue of being a Presidential nominee, they do not go through a security clearance.

Briefings are given to presidential and vice presidential candidates and one or two trusted staffers.

Surely not thinking about Christie for SecState? If I was to bring two friends if it was not my intended NSA I would pick my intended SecDef and SecState. Possibly SecHomSecur.

I agree completely. From what I've read, our military and Intel folks would have to be even more alarmed by the inclusion of Flynn than I am.

this is such a disturbing situation.
I sure hope that the people doing the briefings are being very, very careful.

My understanding is that these security briefings are a courtesy, not a requirement. Nothing in the Constitution says that presidential candidates get security briefings.
