Cue the Donald Trump tweet about Adbusters being a very deceitful and struggling magazine in 3, 2,
The magazine, which touts itself as fighting back against the hostile takeover of our psychological, physical and cultural environments by commercial forces, has issued its cover for its upcoming issue and makes extraordinarily creative use of its bar code for a cover story about global fascism.

Adbusters Issue #127 takes on the rise of global fascism, exposing the symptoms of a sick and outdated system, explains the editorial page of the issue. (36,095 posts)This is not just a bar code joke.
Adbusters doesn't seem to know or care that most people seeing this cover wouldn't really get it, which is the point Adbusters has been making about most commodifications over the decades.
And Adbusters can't claim that they don't know that most Americans have not been familiar with Adbusters' message over decades.
Adbusters has funding way beyond its magazine subscription intake; Adbusters were part of the planners of the original Occupy groups.
I'm not happy with this edition or its implications. I used to respect their message. Now I don't.
I might be underestimating the global readership of the magazine, but I'm going to have to say that Adbusters isn't just normalizing fascism on the news stand.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

(14,174 posts)Why would you think most people wouldn't get it? Trump is the embodiment of Fascism + commercialism. A reality TV star that's been trying to sell everything from steaks to golf courses during this campaign.
And youre not supposed to be happy with the implications. That's the point.
And what does your scepticism of the size of their subscribership have to do with anything?
Sorry but I don't understand where you are coming from?
