WASHINGTON -- Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry rose to Donald Trumps defense Tuesday, saying Khizr and Ghazala Khan get no free pass to attack the Republican nominee just because their son died in combat.
"Mr. Khan is the one that went out and struck the first blow, Perry told CNN. And in a campaign, if youre going to go out and think that you can take a shot at somebody and not have incoming coming back at you, shame on you.
U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan was killed in Iraq in 2004, giving his relatives the unwanted distinction of becoming a "Gold Star" family. His father delivered a scathing prime time rebuke of Trump on stage at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia last month, which sparked a lengthy back-and-forth between Trump and the Khans, who are Muslim.
Trump's ongoing criticism of the Khans cost him. Democrats, Republicans and an array of veterans groups called it inappropriate, unpresidential and distasteful to attack grieving parents of an American officer.

And hearing Mr. Kahn speaking about our founding documents was humbling.

(11,949 posts)We Democrats are going to again being seen as the party of patriots. Because patriots value all American lives, especially those serving. And we value them by not asking them to needlessly be sacrificed on bullshit adventures.
Have a great evening and hug your sons. Assuming they are still in the house!!

(22,037 posts)Governor Perry can't be serious. This response is childish beyond belief. And why would he wander into this mess, anyway? It's already been shown to be a lose-lose situation. He's as dumb as ever.
But let's look at this for a nano-second. Mr. Kahn's speech before the Democratic Convention was in response to Donald Trump's derogatory and un-American comments about all Muslims.
So, Governor Perry, explain who "started" it.
Like Donald Trump, Governor Perry is an idiot.

Surely that's what the Trumpians meant, right??

This is the kind of talk that will sink that revolting party.
