http://www.politicususa.com/2016/08/17/house-republicans-break-law-leaking-classified-clinton-fbi-interview-info.htmlThere are already reports that House Republicans are leaking classified information from Hillary Clintons FBI interview in violation of federal law.
Clinton campaign chair John Podesta tweeted that he is hearing that Republicans are leaking to reporters:

Already hearing from people who have been contacted by reporters with knowledge of the content of their interviews in FBI 302's. (1/2)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone knew that House Republicans were going to leak the classified information. The FBI was so sure that House Republicans were going to leak the information that they sent a warning along with the notes from Clintons interview that the information was classified.
The whole point behind the Republican desire to get the material was to try to drum up a new scandal that will take the focus off of Donald Trump and his imploding presidential campaign. House Republicans have been using the edited leak strategy to put out bits of misleading and out of context information since they took back the House majority.

Polls say people are tired of the emails, btw.

(7,528 posts)They leaked it ON PURPOSE after being told not to. Was the FBI possibly baiting them so they could go "Okay, shut up about this now" if they leaked?
Don't you realize, the congress is untouchable. There is not such thing as treason, misconduct, or even breaking laws. The FBI will not arrest anyone on this, the congress will begin a huge waste of time and money investigation that will last several months, and as long as we have congressman and women who don't give a shit about their country, but only their wallets, this is going to continue. Hillary will be president and then they will start on something else. This is why GOTV is not just important for the presidential election, but also the down ballots too. I can only hope Congressman Cummings is on the committee and he does what he does....

(2,546 posts)see them swirling down the drain in the toilet of their own ineptitude. Hopefully the FBI will follow the law and deal with these criminals in the way the law was designed to. I would think that the RICO statutes would be useful, if not then it will be easy enough to prosecute the lawmakers because they will turn on each other like the cowards and bullies they really are.

(2,146 posts)Seriously, with references - what can the FBI do? Are there specific laws and possibly precedent, that can be used to bring the leakers to trial? Like Sedition or Treason?
I hope the FBI wasn't just woofing at the committee. I really hope they are prepared to charge and convict the congressmen who leaked this classified information.... To me, they still have to make up for letting the people who leaked classified information in the Valerie Plame case, go free.

(54,378 posts)"Members of the United States Congress enjoy a similar parliamentary privilege as members of the British Parliament; that is, they cannot be prosecuted for anything they say on the floor of the House or Senate. They also enjoy the right to be present in Congress: that is, they may be in prison or jail the rest of the time, but they have the right to attend Congressional sessions, speak on the floor, vote, etc. These rights are specified in the Constitution and have been fairly uncontroversial in U.S. history. Courts have consistently interpreted them very narrowly."
Now, members can be expelled by the full House, but that's rare. However, if there is a narrow interpretation of the immunity clause, then it applies only to what is said on the FLOOR of the House. Thus, if they commit a criminal violation of classification laws in a hearing or to the press, their immunity is gone, and every last one of them is liable for indictment and prosecution.
They'd need to charter a few buses to ferry the lot of them from jail to the Capitol and back, but the images on the nightly news would be priceless--to be rerun every two years during election campaigns, too.
Transporting them from jail to the Well for their one minute morning speech and transporting them back to jail is fine with me.

(15,805 posts)There's no actual link to substantiate anything has been leaked. Other than the hint of a rumor put out by Clinton campaign chairman, and dutifully passed on by a pro-Hillary blogger, there is no there, there.
No one will be surprised when (not, if) the info gets leaked, but these breathless bits of useless gossip don't do anything except generate an uptick in traffic for the writer's website.

(18,672 posts)what they're falsely accusing Hillary of doing. And it's unlikely they'll investigate themselves or face any consequences. They mock the law, and don't lift a goddamn finger to help Americans. I've watch them continually block President Obama's plans for jobs and infrastructure, and now they're blaming him because the economy has not fully recovered from their fucking it up under W. And our infrastructure is crumbling and has been for decades.
The GOP is beyond corrupt and will do anything to get power, even back a dangerous dictator wannabe who wants to merge us with Russia. When they get power, they loot the public treasury over and over again, while profiting from the deaths of our young overseas. Then when Democrats get power, we're busy cleaning up their huge messes while they do everything to slander and impede progress. I've lived long enough to see this cycle over and over again.
Their supporters tell us godless liberal heathens that we're going to hell while they work their hardest to create hell on earth. I am so tired of this bullshit. I'm heartsick that the America we should be striving to be is being shit on by these degenerates.
Strong words, but I'm so unbelievably fed up with it all.
