Play-Doh?
That's the... Good golly, Play-Doh?
Get outta here. I refuse to believe this.
I thought, well that's kind of a dumb photoshop. Nobody would ever... And then...
Play-Doh? What on earth?

(41,960 posts)People will tell themselves all kinds of things. "Oh, those poor kids. Let's give them something that will keep them occupied." I can't even blame Trump, though it's funny. But who put that on a truck? Oh well; I think intentions were good.
And yeah, it's strange.

"From the island of misfit weirdos."
In their fear-driven hatred of basic American values ("We hold these truths to be self-evident..." , this is what the Republicans have degenerated to become.

(135,425 posts)apparently Donald Trump went to Louisiana and gave flood victims Play Doh.
I had to google and look it up, because the TV hasn't been tuned to news today--too many family members wanted to watch films instead.

(5,126 posts)As bad of a candidate as he is.... I am still having a hard time believing that there was no one around him.... even him... that didn't think/say "handing out play-doh in a 49 second photo op is ridiculous". Really? Really? Play-doh? To flood victims? Really?

Hortensis
(58,785 posts)trashed -- overseas, often dumped in piles to rot right where they arrived. Workers in disaster areas simply can't fuss over stuff that isn't wanted or needed. And donors often greatly misunderstand what people are going to want. A well-meaning church group's wardrobe cullings, for instance, may be about as welcome as those from an Indonesian village would be to Oklahoma flood victims.
The Donald interrupting hard-working relief workers to photo-op was such a disgusting display of hypocrisy and opportunism that I'm glad to see it's backfiring somewhat. Play-Doh!

(19,806 posts)but that's after they have the things they need to keep them ALIVE.
Play-dough is not one of them.
Used toys is not one of them
NEW toys is not one of them.
Im not going to give him a break because his ONLY MOTIVES were
to attempt to embarrass POTUS and HRC.
Also make himself and his idiot running mate try to look like
"compassionate conservatives" as if such things exist.
Pure self promotion.
He is an empty shell .
REAL action would be to donate $$$
or useful items like FOOD or WATER or dry cloths or blankets.

(11,986 posts)but my pic in post #36 provides more context, it seems to be just some of a bunch of stuff that was on the truck, and then doesn't seem so bad. There is value in comforting the kids, too.
What bugs me is that there is so much genuinely awful to worry about with Trump, I don't think it serves us well to focus on this kind of distraction. Don't give the other side reason to say that our side is doing something misleading. We don't need to take things out of context to make them seem awful, giving the other side reason to say we're taking things out of context. He says/does plenty of stuff that is awful in full context.

(62,270 posts)But it was probably more of a "thoughtful donation" by someone at the last minute to give to kids or something and no one was paying a damn bit of attention to what they were doing.
Granted, you don't normally accept something like that as a donation, but often care packages have stuff for kids in them just to break the monotony of basic supplies. Fruit roll ups or pop tarts more often than toys though.
