A bit of logic and recent election history

I have seen a bit of hand-wringing on here lately from some who see this recent "pivot" (aka: act of desperation) from Trump and his new cohort of never-ran-an-election-before alt-right crazies and are panicked that even the slightest turn toward less-divisive policies and rhetoric is going to win him the election. Look, if he moves to the middle he will alienate his base, and if he stays where he has been on issues and rhetoric he will continue to alienate reasonable non-bigots from sea to shining sea.

I've said this in a previous response to another OP recently as well, but think about recent electoral history for a moment....if Romney, a significantly less offensive central-casting republican presidential candidate couldn't win in 2012 against a president whose party was obliterated in the midterms only two years earlier and whose poll numbers were on a downward trend at the time...you remember, the president they called a terrorist-loving Muslim with a fake birth certificate...You remember, unemployment was still quite high at the time too.

So, how the hell is crazy, irrational, racist Trump going to win in 2016 when the Democratic Party and the president are polling positively, the economy has improved, our party is mostly United, and our nominee is winning soundly in the polls???

Romney polled WAY better than Trump is doing now across most demographics...and he lost, soundly, in 2012! So, in just 4 short years the electorate has changed so much that Trump can win with the racist white undereducated vote alone? I seriously doubt it...especially when countless republican leaders are coming out against him on a weekly basis!?

Seriously, think about it! I'm not saying we don't need to work our asses off to ensure Trump never sets foot on the White House grounds...

But really, I think we all could benefit from calming down and staying focused on GOTV. Let's not get caught up in the media driven Trump sideshow of the day designed to drive false horse race narratives that are solely for the purpose of ensuring high TV ratings through November.

We need to rebut the ridiculous Trump-obsessed and Hillary-hating double standard reporting at every turn, but let's face it...the odds are in our candidate's favor, so we just need to fight the organized effort to tear Hillary down in the name of media profiteering...and calm the f#€k down about every twist and turn of the Trump circus.

Focus democrats, focus!

and GOTV is especially important down ballot. The Senate looks very flippable this cycle, maybe even with a couple of extra seats.

We should make great strides in the House, too, though flipping that might be too hard to do. Still want to tear some seats away from the Tea Party nutsos. If we could flip the house, that would be awesome as shit.

Plus, of course, there are a lot of states out there that need to clean house on the Tea Party and Chicago School Repubs and move them toward purple and blue as much as possible.

I mean, they must think we are all really stupid.

Trump gets out there and says "I'm not going to pivot, I don't want to pivot", and goes on to say something about pivoting means he's wouldn't be himself...then they spend 48 hours talking about regrets, doing half-assed disingenuous outreach to African Americans, telling Hispanic republican donors behind closed doors that he's open to citizenship for some undocumented immigrants...

Are you catching on to the bait and switch? Telling us that the campaign is going to "Let Trump be Trump" and then unleashing a parade of pandering like we haven't seen before...I guess we're supposed to think that this is just Trump being Trump and all of that racist xenophobic stuff for the last several years was Trump not being Trump?

Their campaign is really bad at the whole PsyOps thing...it's downright funny!
