Donald Trump's presidential campaign paid the writer of Melania Trump's Republican National Convention speech $356.01 in July, according to campaign filings.

The Trump campaign committee paid Meredith McIver on July 23, according to Federal Election Commission data released Saturday.
McIver took the blame for the speech that received backlash after a reporter noticed its similarities to an address that first lady Michelle Obama gave in 2008.

Some journalists and onlookers questioned whether McIver even existed after the campaign released a statement from her apologizing for the error.

McIver was mentioned during a 2007 interview with Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, and has co-authored some of his books.
