GOTV Isn't Really about the Presidential Race.

It's about all of the down-ballot elections. In my opinion, those are actually more important across the country than the presidential race, and they're the target of GOTV. Of course the presidential race needs voters, too, but it's the state and federal legislative races that really depend on turnout.

Presidents can do more when they have a Congress that is on their side. In each state, too, state legislatures have far more influence on the daily lives of the residents of those states than the President does.

Encouraging high turnout of Democratic voters is what I'm all about, but that's not because of the presidential election, really. It's about all of those other offices. If Democrats turn out in large numbers, then of course the Democrat wins the White House. But, even when it's clear that a Democrat will win the presidential election, it remains essential to GOTV.

So, when I write here on DU about turnout and helping get people to the polls, I'm not writing about Hillary vs. Trump. That's not the subject. The subject is the rest of the ballot. The subject is getting Democrats elected to all offices. Some people seem to misunderstand me on that subject. I'm not sure why that is. I'm very clear about what my priorities are.

GOTV! It matters in every race. Even in Red states, where flipping one House seat can make the difference in Congress. It matters in all states, since state legislatures write the laws for that state. It matters in every county and city, where who is on the city council, county board and every school board matters a great deal.

GOTV is not about Presidents. It's about governance. It's about everything.

This is my opinion. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

A logical, organized and well-worded post. It couldn't be more plain spoken, direct and forthright. However, it will be interesting to see all the creative ways that might be used to re-interpret your words in search of an hidden agenda. Or, maybe people will tire of the games and will just take your posts at face value.

I try hard to make my points clear, but don't always succeed, I guess.

Many of us will GOTV and focus on downballot races despite our lack of enthusiasm about the presidential race.
