FL limits campaign donations to $1000 per candidate/year. Trump wanted to give $25,000 to Bondi.

So what did he do?

He gave her $25,000 through his Foundation -- which is illegal, too, because charities cannot give to political campaigns. So, to the IRS, he reported that the $25K went to a Kansas charity with a similar name. (That would have been legal, if he had actually donated the money to the Kansas charity.)

Some news reports say that he should have donated to Bondi's campaign directly -- which is true, except he was barred by law from giving her more than $1000.

So what the news reports seem to be missing is that there was no legal way for him that year to give her $25K.

It couldn't have been simply a clerical mistake. They knowingly gave her 25 times more than the law allowed -- and by reporting it as a donation to a charity with a similar name, they almost succeeded.

Then they discounted a fund raiser for her to the tune of $135,000, in which the event reportedly hauled in at least $150,000. I suppose Trump can charge event users whatever he wants, but without the discount given to her, she wouldn't have netted much. And since her AG work seems to always favor him legally, there is the giant red flag that is going off in peoples' minds.
