Donald Trump Calls For No Debate Moderators As Pressure Mounts To Fact-Check Him

Republican nominee takes another pre-emptive strike to protect himself from having to tell the truth.

Trump responded Monday to the Lauer controversy, and growing calls for the TV journalists steering the debates to challenge Trump’s and Hillary Clinton’s falsehoods, by proposing there should be no moderators at all.

“I think, maybe, we should have no moderator,” Trump said on CNBC. “Let Hillary and I sit there and just debate. I think the system is being rigged so it’s going to be a very unfair debate. And I can see it happening right now. Everyone’s saying that [Lauer] was soft on Trump. Well now, the new person’s going to try and be really hard on Trump just to show the establishment what he can do. So, I think it’s very unfair what they’re doing. I think we should have a debate with no moderators, just Hillary and I sitting there talking.”

He will continue to make demands that can't be met so he will just pull out of the debates. Sokay with me - let the national audience hear from Hillary for 2 hours.

You two are just going to have a little talk? No format, no one running things? A free for all?

Nice try, you weasel.

and Trump's big mouth wins by simply out-talking everyone else.

Anyway, the thought is ridiculous, and Trump once again proves he's an asshole.

He should have no problem handling Hillary Clinton in a debate moderated by Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid. They're all chicks, in his eyes, so should be easy for a tough guy like him to handle.

typical Repub argument. Basically, he wants permission to run his free range fillibuster of bullshit that won't allow any talk about issues.

I'm with the posters above. Let him back out of the debates if he doesn't like the format that has been in place of almost every cycle since Kennedy/Nixon. He'll look like the bullying coward he is.

Damn, with this election and this unhinged, ReThug candidate, we're in uncharted, bizarre waters like I've never seen.

I think that suggestion by Clinton was silly, but neither she nor Obama were going to be talking about the size of Obama's penis (not a phrase I thought I'd ever write), or somebody was bleeding out of their where ever, or any of the other incompetent things Trump has said.

Clinton and Obama both said some silly things in the 2008 primaries, but they were and are fundamentally grown up people. Trump is an emotional toddler, which may be unfair to the toddler.

You DO realize Hillary Clinton is a trained and proficient attorney, right? She'll get that stupid SOB to confess to all the crimes he's committed in front of all America.

Helpful hint, Don: "guards, take the defendant into custody" are not the words you want your opponent to end the debate with. But if you go in there and start debating her without a moderator, they'll happen.
