There were five phantom donations in the files of Donald Trump’s foundation. Here’s what we know.

Donald Trump's charity is not like other charities.

For one thing — as The Washington Post explained Sunday — the money in the Donald J. Trump Foundation does not come from Trump himself. Tax records show that Trump hasn't donated any money to his foundation since 2008. Instead, he has retooled his personal charity so that it gives away other people's money — although Trump has kept his name on the foundation, and atop its checks.

For another, the Trump Foundation seems to have repeatedly defied the Internal Revenue Service rules that govern nonprofits. It gave a prohibited political gift to help Florida Attorney General Pamela Bondi (R). It appears to have bought items for Trump — including a $12,000 football helmet and a $20,000 portrait of Trump — despite IRS rules against "self-dealing" by charity leaders.

And, in at least five cases, the Trump Foundation may have reported making a donation that didn't seem to exist.

These five cases turned up in The Post's reporting, which looked at 24 years of tax filings and reached out to more than 200 people and groups listed in those filings as donors or recipients of gifts.

He's a charlatan. I'm glad the Washington Post is doing this expose, but when will the rest of the media call him out for his BS?? No, let's talk about the Clinton Foundation - an actual charity that has an A rating. Yeah, that makes sense.

What Liberal Media??????????

Trump's benefit. He is a user, will use anyone to help him, he hires people, some he does not pay, makes him very dishonest.

that didnt seem to go where they said they were going against orgs w similar names. that is how they defended the bondi thing- oh, it was just a clerical error.
but part of that explanation was that they just looked up the name of the charity. really? that is how your accountants do it?
how many other times have they made similar "clerical errors"?

How can this not be the 24/7 story on all the political chatter channels and on all the political blogs, and in the newspapers as well? This appears to be a verifiable criminal enterprise.

This story, while revealing a lot of factual information, still only dares to make the claim his foundation is "not like the others." What is this, Sesame Street? Aimed at 3-year-olds?

If they turn the other other way. It has never been more glaring how dirty the media has become. We need regulations put back in place and I hope this election cycle brings about communication reform.
