Related: About this forumJesus, Ted Strickland, thanks for all the "help"
Just seen on MSNBC: Thomas Roberts reports that Ted Strickland is speaking at an OH rally and says that Tim Kaine is "ready to be President" ....the implication being, well, you know what the implication is.
Someone needs to muzzle him!

(11,605 posts)He's probably trying to reassure people that whatever deadly disease Hillary might have is not a reason not to vote for her, because she picked a VP who is capable of leading if something happened to her as president. I don't think Hillary is actually medically unfit to serve at all, but reassuring voters that even if she were Kaine is capable of taking over might not be the worst strategy.

(6,974 posts)The WAY he's talking @ that rally in Ohio could be part of the reason he's losing to Rob Portman of all people. Strickland, from all that I've seen and read about him, is a very solid guy but he seems to be a not so good campaigner, and him implying that IF Hillary is not able or fit to be president and that Tim Kaine IS is helping to buttress the notion of him not being the best campaigner, especially vs Rob Portman, who IS a very weak candidate
Strickland is personally, a very solid guy and his principles are exactly what we would want in Washington representing Ohio.
Portman is a terrible candidate with a terrible track record and a milquetoast personality.
But...
Portman is STILL a better candidate than Strickland and is likely going to hold the state.
Remember - this is the state that keeps sending Sherrod Brown to the Senate. You'd think we could do better than Portman but, as the Ohio Dem Committee says...Strickland did his time and now it's his turn. What they don't say is that the decision to run Strickland is as much about party loyalty as the decisions we deride Republican's for. Just once, I'd like to see the Dem Party in Ohio prioritize winning vs. simply playing.

(617 posts)I think you have to say it in a better way.
I remember in 08 all my conservative relatives saying that they'd actually be ok with McCain kicking the bucket and Palin taking over (dear God), and thinking how unseemly it is to even give voice to that idea.
Just my two cents though, I understand that people should know that Kaine is qualified.

(14,689 posts)He could have said Kaine was totally unfit and unqualified for the presidency.
I can't believe people are throwing Strickland under the bus. He's been one of Clinton's most loyal allies for years.
