2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI thought the Reverand Wright nontroversy was the most ridiculous manufactured "scandal" ever
For days on end, the media was asking questions like "what did Obama know and when did he know it" as if he or his associates had committed some kind of a crime. They demonized him for things his pastor said, the whole "controversy" was rife with racist undertones, and it was disgusting.
I have to say, though, the way they are turning Hillary's illness and stumbling Sunday into a manufactured scandal is equally ridiculous and disgusting. Their latest line of questioning is whether Tim Kaine knew she was sick and when, and whether she "covered it up" even from him. As if getting pneumonia is some sort of a crime. One reporter on MSNBC had the sense to point out that she is not president yet and thus had no obligation to notify Kaine (and even if she was president, she was never incapacitated!), but the way they are beating this dead horse, replete with sexist undertones questioning whether she is too frail for the job, and treating her bad luck getting sick as a scandal is sickening.
I get that the media wants to appear fair by holding both candidates "accountable", but treating getting pneumonia as more of a scandal or "transparency problem" than refusal to release tax returns, bribing elected officials, and making jokes about gas chambers is despicable.
I know I am preaching to the choir, but I needed to rant.

(44,175 posts)Clearly HRC has demonstrated her stamina, tenacity, and energy over the years.
Classic Rove: attack your opponents strengths and turn them into liabilities.
Kerry a hero: "Kerry shot himself to get a Purple Heart.
Clintons service as Secretary of State: "she killed Americans in Benghazi"
Great work of Clinton Foundation around the World: "Clinton Foundation is corrupt scheme"
HRC's tirelessness and tenacity: "she has epilepsy, dementia, and is dying"
So it's just business as usual. Lie lie lie lie. Media just amplifies it rather than debunking it.

(1,480 posts)Rev. Wright attended and graduated from Central High in Philly, one of the top schools at that time and primarily white in enrollment. While attending university, he left to join the Marines. After serving as a Marine, Rev. Wright then joined the U.S. Navy. His credentials are impressive by any measure. For him to be maligned for a few words taken TOTALLY out of context is malicious. As a Philly girl, I am proud of Rev. Wright and his accomplishments. I am deeply saddened by the fact that he suffered the unwarranted attack on his character while our country endures the buffoonery of the charlatan who dares to aspire to the presidency. I, too, needed to vent.

(11,605 posts)I asked him if he knew Jeremiah Wright personally or by reputation. He said that he did not know him personally but knew that he was a well-respected leader in the Chicago faith community and not the fringe lunatic he was being made out to be. He was as much a victim as Obama of the ridiculous "scandal", although unlike Obama he did not help himself any with his response.

(3,335 posts)about all the conflicts of interest that Trump Org would create for a President Trump and the reporter seemed to have put a lot of work into chasing down the facts, and the media acts like they couldn't be bothered. But they run around like a chicken with their heads cut off because she didn't tell them she had pneumonia. Also, Trump and his kids have said that he says he'll just create a 'blind trust' and a lawyer tells the media that putting it into a blind trust won't eliminate the 'conflict of interest' and also that the law doesn't consider 'his children' to be independent of him, and the media just seems to say 'whatever'.
