New England GOP decline continues amid losses

http://www.boston.com/news/local/vermont/2012/11/10/new-england-gop-decline-continues-amid-losses/UFxr7nTwabGYOk514phhUN/story.html

"The results come in an election when local candidates were hurt by national Republicans seen as extremists by the region’s moderate and independent-minded populace, and in a year when Democrats turned out in big numbers to re-elect President Barack Obama. The losses disheartened Republicans, who have been fighting dwindling numbers here for years."

3. Two things regarding New England:

One, the GOP does not care much about us here because we are not part of their base or their future. They neglected this area for a long time and have now paid the price with less representation here. Plus, we have been attacked for years by Republicans. When that happens, why would many people here want to vote for someone that constantly attacks our way of thinking and living?

Two, we are too socially moderate/liberal for a lot of Repubs. Not too many people here care about abortion, religion, gay marriage (it's been legal in my state of CT for 4 years) or "moral values". It is rude in New England to stick your nose in other people's business. Some call it aloof but I was always taught to mind my own business. We just don't care what people do with their personal lives for the most part. And the national GOP cares too much. Totally out of touch.

unfortunately, to jettison the crazy base, they MUST accept short term losses in return for long term viability.

Since corporate America operates quarter to quarter, they're going with short term viability and will die as a major national party within a decade.
