Oh, this is a thing of beauty. Hard to believe this is the same Major that worked for Fox. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I think the Trump campaign may have made a fatal error with this one.

(58,785 posts)I'm not at all impressed with two days devoted to payback on one minor issue for dissing them.
Minor? Yes. NOBODY believes he actually has rejected birtherism. Nothing has changed.
A media observer pointed out that print media are doing better, but cable is still holding up their cups to be pissed in, saying please sir may I have more? After all, they still have long hours to fill with the viewership their customers pay for.

(6,592 posts)His diehard supporters are pissed, whether that's rational or not, whether the choice of targets is rational or not.
Trump is the guy who supports their prejudices and tells them they're great.
Logic doesn't work. Positive emotion doesn't work. Appeals from people who don't echo their prejudices don't work.
I really think they're unreachable by the good guys.

I agree that they are unreachable. It would literally require counseling.

THIS IS NOT A FUCKING REALITY SHOW, PEOPLE. WAKE THE HELL UP!
If we don't stop this tangerine-colored shit stain on society, it will take decades to repair the damage--if humans will still be here to repair things. He doesn't believe in climate change, views foreign policy like a reality show, video game, or Rambo movie, and wants to privatize everything, all the while getting stinking, filthy rich.
It's fucking terrifying.

(61,695 posts)from the fiasco today. We need to get that succinct comment out there.

(67,782 posts)This may be the major blunder of the campaign on either side. You do NOT hoodwink and scam the people who are supposed to be reporting on your activities day in and day out.
The "event" this morning just demonstrated first hand for the media just what a scam artist and fraud Trump is.
I love it!

(3,626 posts)is getting tired of Don. He was funny, then he was a cash cow, but the novelty is wearing off and I think they've milked about us much of the cash cow as possible. I predict significant parts of the media are going to begin "the turn" on Donald and it's not going to be pretty for him.
Not because I think highly of the media or think they've regained what makes them important, but simply because they've had their fun, and his usefulness is about to expire and even they realize this fucker cannot be President.

(22,037 posts)However, the OP suggested that Donald Trump's promotional event posing as a press conference may be a significant turning point. If the press collectively feel that they've been abused, it's possible that there will be greater scrutiny in their coverage of Mr. Trump.
If this is true, the timing could be excellent as there are less than two months to the election. If the press begins to really ask hard questions and demand real answers, Mr. Trump will be in for a lot of push-back at an increasing tempo. There will be less and less time - and column inches- for any positive stories about Mr. Trump.
This could be a thing of beauty and just what many of us have been waiting for.

(14,566 posts)How many "moments" that this jackass pushes things too far have we seen already?
If it burns him and stops his momentum a bit for the moment, great.
But, history indicates that there is little chance this will be the moment everyone WTF up and deals with him like they should.
PARTICULARLY the media, like this is the FIRST time he has made them out to be she dogs?

(4,849 posts)Trump revealed how he will use the United States. Like those standing behind him, we will be a backdrop for self-promotion. Setting aside the inadequate comments he made, a particularly cowardly aspect of this event was his failure to stand alone, as if to suggest his actions were those of a patriot.

(42,770 posts)press off something and on to something else. When the Kahn story took center stage he manufactured this big story that he wouldn't endorse McCain - and let that stew a while - only to do it a week later.
Great editorial in DMN yesterday - bottom line saying press doesn't know what to do. Typically, a politician will apologize for a faux pas. Not Trump - he's like a steam roller, spewing a couple lies a day and they are just piling up. And the press can't keep up. #epicfail

(5,275 posts)Cronkite cratered support for the Vietnam War when he went over there and saw we had been lied to. He then came back and delivered a "Special Comment" at the end of one night's news and said it as clear we were in an unwinnable morass.
It's a different day but still news outlets need to call a spade a spade and a lie a lie.
