2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum2014.
I see a lot of threads talking about 2016, which is great. However, I'm already focused on 2014. Who are we going to run for congress? What is DFA or whatever it's called doing? I know they work on identifying and developing candidates. I hope each one of you is thinking about 2014 as well. We need to build on the gains we have made. Are any of you ready? Are you willing to throw your hat in the ring? I am posting in Politics 2012 because some candidates may be running in 2014, some campaign workers may be ready to run in 2014, and because maybe, just maybe a DU'er or two may be ready. 2014, here we come!

(28,498 posts)I live in the 3rd district of Kansas. Republican Kevin Yoder ran unopposed this election. Oh, there was a Libertarian, but no Democrat. Yoder won.
Yoder was elected with the 2010 wave of TeaBaggers and right-wing nutjobs. Before that, Democrat Dennis Moore held the seat, having been elected in 1998. He retired in 2010 due to health.
With the 2012 landslide, I think Kansas Dems are poised to run a candidate against Yoder in 2014. I wonder who they'll put up.

(3,491 posts)will you work as hard or harder to GOTV in '14? In NC, we have to defend Kay Hagan's Senate seat which will make it easier to stay motivated. I definitely plan to help out however I can to see that she's re-elected. However, it's more difficult to work hard in the off-year elections when your state doesn't have a Senate seat or Governorship on the line.
How do you find the motivation to work as hard in those states to GOTV when House races are the most important ones on the ballot? Most of them aren't competitive so where does the motivation to vote and GOTV come in those situations?

(10,336 posts)be motivated to go to the polls again. Every 2, not every 4! Good candidates can help. Can you toss your hat in the ring? Who do you know that might? Who do you know that would be good? I realize we aren't going to competitive in many, many races, but there are many more where we can make a difference. I still believe in Dean's 50-state strategy. The work goes on.

(14,565 posts)Consequently the female vote drops to 51% of the vote as opposed to 53% in general elections, and that's all the difference in how we fare.
The 51/53 change is standard, not merely a comparison of two recent cycles.
